You're so right, @wilma -- all the lines are fighting with each other, and it's basically a graphic nightmare.  There was no care to stand back, and evaluate how the lines of the shelves would, or wouldn't, align with all the lines in the windows.

Could be a terrific room.  I really like the metallic golden ceiling, which could have been achieved the classic way, with gilt tea paper--  can't tell, but is nice and gives that subtle glow.

Yes, @Oznell  in the art world it is called dynamic movement. The eye has to flow  smooth from one area to the other. This has too many stops and starts that compete. It is uncomfortable for the eye.

In my opinion, it really takes away from the beauty of that room. And I could see the shelves just becoming a place for clutter!

I like the room and don't really mind the shelves, although if it were my house I'm not sure I would keep them.

Why did they hang a porcupine from the ceiling?  That light fixture would go before the shelves and they are a big no themselves.

I think it looks ridiculous.

I agree! Those windows are beautiful and the shelves ruin that gorgeous view! I also do not like the chandelier. Something more elegant would be better.

Love the room!!!

Re: Shelves in Front of Windows

I agree with OP. The shelves aren't even centered in front of the windows, which would make me crazy looking at them. I also don't like the black windows. I find them stark and cold. I would just take everything out of the room and start over. The windows are nice, but I would go with a more subtle color.
