I like sectionals but I like them in a spacious room.  The ones shown are nice but I  prefer color and would not have that many neutrals.  Also I agree completely about the window treatments.  I always have curtains, drapes, or panels on my windows, it warms up the room in my opinion and gives privacy when you want it.

Some of these are attractive.  I would never have an uhlpolstered stool as a coffee table!  Useless!  Put a vase of flowers and water on it!

I think the first one with the blue accessorys is nice.  However sectionals are very contemporary, and IMHO would not fit in with a traditional home. Also You need a lot of space.  These are obviously ads for sectionals, so in picture #1, I think the focal point should be the beautiful lake, so I'd switch it around so everyone is facing the window, and I would never add window coverings.

Re: Sectional Sofas

[ Edited ]

We have a leather L-shaped sectional in taupe that I got many years ago.  It's a Natuzzi sofa from a store called Dane Decor (I'm not sure if they are still in business).  It was expensive but still looks great and is very comfortable.

ETA:  It's in the family room and a causal look....I also fall asleep on it sometimes.  I'm currently looking for a new sofa & chairs for the living room.  I plan on getting a regular sized fabric sofa.

I like them in theory but have only seen a couple that offer a more traditional vibe that I might actually consider having. Years ago, Ethan Allen had a lovely sectional that did not read as contemporary as most sectionals tend to do. I have no idea if they still carry it. I also have no interest in a huge sectional, but prefer a smaller silhouette or even one with an interesting curved shape. In a room with limited space they are an alternative to having lots of individual seating pieces and, if one so desires, they are a way to easily fill a larger space. Overall, I guess I prefer more individual seating pieces that are easier to move around and can go from room to room.

@wilma

I'm really liking Pic 1, everything (minus the table lamp.)  The chandelier is OK but I'd replace it.  The wall of black framed windows/sliders are just beautiful - esp. with the gorgeous water view.  The rug is very pretty.

Thanks for sharing.

When I moved into my current home, we were gifted a few hours with a designer from our realtor.  She designed a couch and loveseat for our family room.  We lived with them for almost two years but they just didn't give us enough seating.  So we purchased a sectional from Bassett that you could customize.  It is a denim colored chenille fabric sectional that fits perfect in our family room.  We have an additional arm chair with ottoman as well.  The room is not huge but everything fits just perfect and the sectional is very comfy.

I do like them and I like these. We currently have one but we don't have a very large room and it takes up most of the space.  I have thought lately of perhaps getting rid of it and getting a regular sofa or couch.  There is just DH and I and we really don't need all of that.  Hmmmm...... pondering....

I bought a sectional for my family room and I love it.  It works in the space (frames it).  My house has a kitchen and family room area that is completely open.  The dining and living rooms are defined spaces. I have the chaise on one side.  I was afraid it would be too big.  But thanks to my dad's measurements it was a perfect fit.  I looked at Lazy Boy as well.  Loved the furniture but not the prices.

I added a small, four person, round table as well.  So I have a space to eat without taking up too much room.  I still have space to walk and move around.

I think sectionals can be a challenge.  There is a fine line between casual/comfy and tacky.  When done correctly they really make a room look like a place you want to plant yourself for a while with an afghan and a book (or a good Netflix movie.)

I do also think there is a lighting issue sometimes.  The book lovers have to grab an end seat, which can be tricky.
