Do you like sectional sofas?

I like the look in casual family spaces. I always thought I wanted a sectional in our family room. I liked the idea of having lots of places to stretch out, recline, and relax. I especially wanted a sectional with a chaise for myself. 😉

When we needed new furniture we investigated the possibility of buying one, but they are so big. They either wouldn't fit in our small family room, or if they did, they would overwhelm the space.

The only feasible option was customizing a sectional at La-Z-Boy. You select the individual pieces you want, and they assemble it into the sectional shape you need. Clever but expensive. When all was said & done, though, we still opted for a regular sofa, chair, and ottoman which work better in our space.

Here are few photos of sectionals I found online that I like. My main complaint about each room is the lack of window treatments. I realize that seems to be a trend, but IMO it's not practical.

Love the view. I like blue tones used. Not crazy about the gold lamp & end table. I don't like using an ottoman like a coffee table. Items could fall off and spill too easily. Perhaps the one room that I might consider not having window treatments.

I like the neutrals, prints, & pop of yellow in the furnishings. I would add some greenery.
I like the windows & architectural details on the wall. The throw sticking out of the ottoman is silly & dangerous. This room definitely needs window treatments - more than the other rooms IMO.

I like the way they added color in the pillows. The print mixing is ok. The shelves are great for storage, but I'm not crazy about the decorative items displayed on the top of it or the word art. Another room that needs some kind of window treatments. E77F7EAF-931E-4E3A-A83C-C17AF0894C26.jpeg

I like this sectional, pillows, and rug. The floor is very nice. The lamps and tables are ok. I don't like the windows or  spiral staircase. The artwork adds some color, but I'm not a fan of the pieces.

I like that first one a lot. My daughter has one like it and it is so comfortable. At first they thought they would not be able to fit it in the room but they did and are so glad they kept trying. The old one they had was so uncomfortable. This one looks nice too.

Thanks for the nice pictures @wilma!

#1 and #4 are my favorites. Beautiful rooms.

#3 looks like a trap. So tight and you could easily fall over all that stuff.

I do like sectionals but the lighting can be trickly.  In our first home we had track lighting installed over the sectional.  But we cannot do that in a condo so I got a sofa and love seat instead with tables and lamps.

In those pictures I see limited lighting.  How can anyone read without lighting????

I have a sectional in my living room.We love it .It's so comfortable & cozy. It's over 20 years old & we are thinking about getting a new one.
We entertain a lot.Or we used to before Covid.Sectionals are casual & perfect for hanging out.

We have had sectionals in both of the homes we have lived in since the mid 90's.

We love them and would never go back to a standard sofa in the Family Room. They are so comfortable and can seat more people if you have a large family. They key is finding one that fits your space ..it takes some time researching but it is worth it.

I still like standard sofas in more formal Living Rooms that are not used for TV watching.

I don't have one either but always wished I had room for one.  These are all very nice!

An emphatic...No!

At one time, my mother had one, it always separated and she was constantly pushing it back together.  That was before they could be hooked together, but still have bad memories of the style.

Usually, they are large and hog the room leaving little space for more interesting pieces of furniture...and always having to walk the whole way around them rather than take shortcuts between pieces of furniture...actually becoming a pain in butt.

I like #1 and #3 the best.  My main criteria are the color combos.  The couches and the proportions of the rooms were generally good for me, though I think the people in room #4 will be fighting over the puny ottoman.
