I usually don't care for "themes", but this looks like somebody's passion.  It's a nice room.

The concept is fine.

A bit of overkill on the dark blue in the bookshelves, and in the amount of wall art used.

I do like the five prints over the doorway, but cut the amount used on the sides for sure,

Me - I would probably of done one large one on the left and two large ones on the right.

I like the dining room table and chairs.

When walking into a room or looking at a photo, I make note of my first impression of the overall room, then look at the decor separately.  

Noticeably, too many photos on the wall.  Something not right with the bookshelf arrangements. This is a family room with no TV set?  No recliner or sofa for lounging.  For reading only, playing games, maybe?  Of course we can't see what's on the other side of the room, but with a blond chest?, table?, desk? there'd be no space for a sofa and it wouldn't be sitting in the middle of the room.   

My first impression was not cozy or useful as a family room.  Don't see this room being used very much.  I like the architecture, not the decor.  The only thing I do like is the leather chair and oriental vases.  

For a family room, it gets a D.

As a minimalist at heart, this room is much too busy for me.

Way too cluttered; you can't see the beauty of the architecture.  I agree with someone else that it looks like an office of some kind.  All the books covered in dark blue are just plain silly.

Obviously this is a room for those who love sailing .  For that purpose it works.
