Re: Sad to take down the fall decor

I like my fall décor much better also. I don't put up as much for Christmas anymore...most of it is in the kitchen and hearth room, where we spend most of our time.

In my dining room, I put up winter themed décor and leave that up until Valentine's day.

I am in the process of taking my Fall stuff down too. It does make me sad because I like all my fall decor so much better than the Christmas items I own. I like what I like too as another poster said.

Re: Sad to take down the fall decor

I just spent three exhausting days putting up the Christmas décor and I love it! But having said that, fall is my favorite time of year. The colors of fall just seem to complement my house. In the end, though, it's all good Smile

Re: Sad to take down the fall decor

I love my fall decor and, yes, I was sad to put it away. Lugged it up to the attic on Saturday and started bringing down Christmas decor. All this decorating is hard work and I'm not as young as I once was. Sooner or later, I'll probably come around to DH thinking about decor--"If it was up to me (DH), the house would look the same all year."

Re: Sad to take down the fall decor

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, so I definitely agree with you! I felt badly taking everything down last weekend. I'll take my pumpkins and autumnal décor over Christmas decorations any day --

Don't get me wrong -- I LOVE Christmas, but there is just something so warm and inviting about fall décor. Maybe it's the beautiful colors and scents. Oh well. There's always next year...

Re: Sad to take down the fall decor

No, I really don't get melancholy about taking fall decor down. I love fall. It's really my favorite season. I do get depressed, anxious, or whatever you want to call it when fall starts turning into winter. Fall does not last nearly long enough. This year fall was so terribly cold and we had bouts of unseasonably cold temps and some snow entirely too early. This is what makes me melancholy, sad, etc. I don't adjust well to fall changing into winter. I never have. And it gets worse as I age.

I do really love Christmas decorations though, and how warm and cozy the house looks. Afterwards, when they are removed, is very depressing also.

No other time of the year do I really get into decorating than besides fall and Christmas. Any other time, it's a little of this or a little of that.

Yes, me too. Removed them last night and cleaned up big-time. There is something of the last link to summer in the farewell to autumn -- maybe? I just thought of that.

Now winter is really here. Thank heavens we will have the lights and warmth of Christmas ahead!

Re: Sad to take down the fall decor

well "winter" has not arrived yet here. we will be sunny and in the 70's here all week long in central Ms so i think that is why for the first time i can remember - i,too, am being slow in taking down my fall decor. even when you look outside at all the trees that have changed colors and are loosing their leaves it feels like spring! but i am going to do it today! i won't be putting up in christmas decor until the weekend though.

Re: Sad to take down the fall decor

I'm with you, mominohio. I allow a transition period, with a mix of Fall and Winter decor. In a couple weeks, I'll switch to full-on Christmas. Any sooner and I'd be so sick of Christmas decor, I'd take it all down on December 26.

Re: Sad to take down the fall decor

When we were out walking our dogs .. I saw a smiling adorable scarecrow in wonderful clean condition out on the sidewalk. He was just sitting there waiting for the garbage to take him away. I never did this before but, I walked pass there on the way home and picked him up and looked him over carefully, I noticed he was wearing what looked like hand made jeans a lumber jacket and flannel shirt. I rescued him from the garbage man and took him home, he is sitting in our garage waiting to be laid out for next fall. I did spray him with some Lysol and he is perfect now.{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}
