I've had both of mine for a few months and no smell.

 

There are items that come with a notice that says the burning smell will burn off after a few uses.  I didn't get anything like that with my dryer.

 

To me, it needs to be looked at right away.  It could be a loose wire, something touching something it's not supposed to or packing materials left in there somewhere.

 

Never mess around with a dryer.
