The Cote de Texas blogger brings her world-roving lens to the beautiful African home of another blogger, Serena Crawford:

Those who've seen the romantic Meryl Streep/Robert Redford film adaptation of Isak Dinesen's "Out of Africa",  will note the similarity to Meryl's gorgeous  Kenya residence in the movie.

That thatched ceiling gives such textural interest to the room.

I love the key elements of the style--  the thatched or wood ceilings, beams, bleached, weathered floors contrasting with deeper woods in the furniture,  those incredible African baskents, the elegant touches of gilt, contrasting with the rougher, indigenous materials.  And that African light filtering in.  It's so romantic and atmospheric.

Cote de Texas is very taken with the Karoo, a desert area in South Africa, with scattered small towns.  She has amazing pictures of the region.  Here are some lodges in the area, which also showcase African style:

This vast Karoo desert area is outlined in red below:

All stone walls inside this bedroom, wow.

The Karoo seems like a fabulous place.  Whether the rooms are polished, or romantic and rustic, they have a traditional appeal and global sophistication.

There sure are some talented people with decorating skills around the world aren’t there. Really beautiful.

When I read the title, I expected some kind of scary masks all over.  I was pleasantly surprised.  I like it!

I am not a fan of everything.

I do like some of the furniture pieces, art and decor pieces.

Love it!  We are going to South Africa in January - our bucket list safari trip.  Thank you for posting the photos as they are beautiful!

Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else. Margaret Mead
