Always on the lookout for designers with an appealing aesthetic. Jessica Buckley works out of Edinburgh, and creates cozy interiors, whether in grand spaces or smallish flats, with a varied color palette. Here's a smattering of a few of her projects to give you a feeling for her work.
Edinburgh Flat:
This deep rose is pretty for a "passage" room like a hallway-- it would be too much for me in a sitting room, but is fun and dramatic in an entrance, in my opinion. Love that rug.
I like the way she brings the pinks on into the living room, but just a sprinkling...
A pale pink kitchen would be so cheerful on those relentlessly gray Edinburgh days...
North London Family Home:
That luscious floor, the detailed cornice...
This sitting room exudes comfort to me.
Her sense of color is so assured-- that tiger lily chair against the vaguely "blush" colored wall. And then she punctuates it with the cheery geranium, and the surprise of a marigold lampshade... Playful!
Another tiny little touch of whimsy-- the unexpectedness of this in a very traditional room...
Edinburgh Georgian Flat:
Those segmented mirrors are such a good idea in a room that gets low or cloudy outside light most of the time.
I love this room, but I personally would have to have "less" on the ottoman/coffee table. Hers is the typical British love of profusion, while I like things just a bit more edited.
Even though I'm not a "yellow" person, I think she's used it so brilliantly here. 'Sinkable' comfy yellow velvet couch, lampshade, that fab pottery and the art!
Edinburgh Georgian Townhouse:
Still colorful, but soothing. Are those skis in the corner-- ha! Real life.
I can't imagine having such a gorgeous window (and view of other venerable town houses) from my kitchen window.
Soft neutrals, plus pink and blue.
Sydney Town House:
I think it's interesting how the 'tempo' of her design changes in the brighter Sydney climate.
I keep showing her little vignettes, but I love them so!
The repeated deep blues, so pretty.
A comfortable, neutral bedroom.
And one with more drama.
Love that screen, and the fresh combo of colors.
Let's see, my impression of her as a designer, from these different houses, is that she's not afraid of color and is good with it. She can be exuberant, but also, "calming".
And she has a great eye for yummy fabrics and rugs.

I love the woodwork, mouldings, and fireplaces. The decor -- colors, furniture, objects (especially the UFO over the kitchen table), and forced whimsy -- leaves me cold.

Really, really nice. She has a great eye. I love the rose color on the passage room walls.I would have popped it with turquoise lamps. Her's is still lovely nonetheless.
Love the drama of the last pictures bedroom with the Asian screen with cranes.
Thanks for these @Oznell ![]()

Her designs are lovely for the most part. I love the sink in yellow velvet couch and that setting. Her use of colors are appealing and the kitchen window so pretty. The stairway is inviting and all the wall colors in the rooms are colors I would choose. I find the sitting rooms comfortable and warm. Thanks for posting, I always enjoy checking out designs and style!!

@Oznell , very interesting! The red is a definite no for me but I love the way she has used pink and black together as well as pink and blue and toyrqoise. I would definitely let her help me decorate. I am not normally a 'pink' fan. Thanks for posting.

This is hardly my style but, for the most part, I love what she has done. I'm not a pink person so any pink would have to be replaced and the rose entryway, I would have done in a deep red instead. There are a few other furniture pieces that I would swap out (i.e. yellow sofa) but she has done a beautiful job of coordinating each of the rooms.

@Oznell I am always interested in the pictures you post. Thank you for the time you put into them. I liked every room! I am surprised however not to see that she uses more tartan plaids?? Some of the tartans are so beautiful and the colors so bright, they would work well with much of her decor ideas. I have been to Edinburgh twice (I have roots there) and I loved it very much. I would love to be able to stay in a lovely home like these for a while. ![]()

Beautiful rooms and decor but bright paint color is not for me. I also don't care for the bright yellow sofa...I prefer soothing colors in a home.

To be honest to me it looks like it's from the "it's different and quirky so it must be wonderful" school of design or lack thereof. . . "
I am not afraid of color, I am just not a fan of so much of the color wheel ricocheting around the house.
