@We rescue cats wrote:I love the simplicity of that home. So very restful and easy on the senses....
I was just going to say that.

@Oznell I agree with everyone in that it is simple, calming, uncluttered and cozy in a spacious way. I typically gravitate to beach modern, but this is really just beautiful.
I would have a house like this on a piece of land with acres and no neighbors for miles. And maybe a lake out back - ahhhh one can dream on. Thank you for the view once again!

Enjoyed the "bare windows / covered windows" debate. Usually, in matters of home decor, I have pretty defined leanings, one way or the other. But I'm split on windows!
Aesthetically, I love the clean look of bare windows in so many cases-- especially when there are gorgeous, old, architecturally significant windows. And light streaming in is essential. But privacy is important too, particularly at night, when the house is lit up. I also don't like the shiny "black hole" look of night time windows indoors.
On our first floor, we have nice, old, 1910 molding and trim around the windows, which I don't want to cover up. The solution was unobtrusive, cellular "honeycomb" shades which leave the pretty window trim all visible.
When it comes to windows, 'less is always more' for me. It's one of my few big quarrels with English country house decorating-- for them, the more rococo, and swagged and pelmeted windows, the better! Too smothering for me.
Original, indoor shutters are my favorite. The bedroom shown in this saltbox house had slim shutters.

I thought I saw a shutter on one of these windows.

Yep, @on the bay , that's the one I was referring to. It is very slim, which made me wonder if it is one of those fold-out ones. LOVE the look of indoor shutters!

I am definitely a bare windows person.
The only time our windows are covered is if it is extremely hot and we have to keep the sun out in the Summer.
I have to have that option or the AC would run non stop.

You know, if they ever wanted to introduce something a little more modern, maybe they could hang a Wyeth on the wall somewhere.

I love a saltbox, though this one appears a bit more timeworn than I'd prefer. Inside, it appears comfortable and serviceable, though overall it's a bit austere and worn looking for me. Still, I can't help but like it at some level.

Love those Wyeth paintings, their "mood", @just bee , and yes, they'd be perfect! Thanks for posting.

I enjoyed it but it doesn't look like a home in which there are children, albeit there are. My neighbor had a house like this. The house was a saltbox. He built it himself with hiring contractors for those chores he was unable to complete. Pennsylvania Dutchman, and this house looks a lot the same. I loved the woman of the house but we were afraid to go inside because it was too perfect and we might sneeze or pass gas and ruin her house. We would knock on her door and ask if we could sit on her swing outside. She would come out and visit with Sister and me. She would always bring out cookies. But we went inside twice and Sister said "I don't think that house wants us."
It's very strict and too uncluttered and some of the fabrics look timeworn, as if washing might shred them, so I would fear that. I think I would feel like Sister. "I don't think this house wants me."
