I feel dumb for asking this, but maybe someone can help.
My Dad wants me to get my mom the roomba that is currently being advertised on TV. I have not seen any commercials for it so I am wondering if anyone knows what model it is.
Also, another question, I see that they are now wi fi enabled, but my parents don't currently have Internet at their house. Would they still be able to program it without the wifi or do they definitely need that?

There are a large variety of Roomba models (WiFi being one choice). There are also version in Shark, Bob/Bobi, etc. I have been looking at these for a few years now just for the in between Dyson days. There are a ton of reviews and these are available in most retail stores. First--decide on your budget. Then take into considertion the type of floor surfaces that it will be cleaning. Think about if the obstacles in the rooms. (lamp cords, etc) This helped me narrow down the models to keep on wish list. I would keep it simple for the parents. Hope this helps you.

I would definitely tell your dad to not order it from TV. Returning it would be a nightmare. I would get it from some place local like Bed, Bath & Beyond. If he doesn't want to shop local, he could order it from them or somewhere similar online. I would never order anything from TV. I've heard too many bad stories.

I bought my Roomba this summer in BBB. I love it. I got the 850 model I think. You dont need wifi to run it. Mine you can program to start at a certain time and it will go and clean the floors and then dock itself to charge it. There are other models that you can just take off the charger and put in the room you want and just turn it on. It does not fall down the stairs. I love that silly thing. It does best on hardwood floors, but i cant complain about on carpeting. It does a pretty good job. The only problem is in our bedroom, it sometimes gets hung up on the electric blanket cords. And if theres alot of dust it will fill rapidly, but a red light pops on so you know o empty the bin. I love it!!

It's a great product but I would never buy it on QVC. Costco carries it, and according to others here, it is available at BBandB.
Adding: I would make sure your mom is someone who appreciates practical gifts. It's definitely not something I would want for Christmas, but some people don't mind housework-type gifts.

I have two Roombas and neither are Wi-Fi. I don’t need that feature as I just turn it on myself. That works for me. The second Roomba I got doesn’t tangle up in cords or fringe in area rugs which is a plus.
My daughter-in-law is getting one for Christmas. : )
She has said things about ours that I know she’s going to love having one.
I think your parents will really enjoy having one, too. : )

My 3 Roombas are my best friends! The only thing I would recommend is to be sure the model you pick can climb a rug that lays on a flat floor, if you have those areas.
I have one old Roomba that doesn't, and I have to rescue it several times. The other two can go from a tile floor to carpet and even up over bathmats.
Mine are "Schedulers" which is convenient most of the time. They find their way back home unless they have become trapped. Many times I put them in a room and shut the door, then I need to find them later.
I have cats that like to go under the beds so I want the Roomba to spend all it's time in one room.
I always said "No gifts with plugs.", but I'd be thrilled with more Roombas!!

Thank you for your input, everyone. I will probably just go to BB &B or somewhere and buy her one for us both to give to her. I don't trust buying from those commercials either as they always have hidden costs. I am just not sure of what model to get but she has a very old one now so (hopefully) any of the new ones would be better than the old one she has. And she definitely likes practical gifts. We are so different it is crazy. I would rather have jewelry or a new purse myself!

@Roni18. Have you checked the I-robot website? I haven't checked lately but they used to have good info there, possibly with CS you could call for advice.

Tell your dad to save his money! I got the Roomba 880 awhile ago from BB&B. ths machine has been around forever, right? That's why I figured all the bugs were worked out. NOT! When running mine, I had to run around the house picking up everything it got caught on, block off where I didn't want it to go (the walls didn't work), the hand controls never worked to bring it back home. This machine was a joke. It ended up ruining my rug under my dining table. I used it for about 3 weeks and it was no way a convenience, I packed it up and returned it for a very costly refund, thank goodness. Be sure to buy one from a local store, so when you do return it, its an easy process.
