Repairing finish on a microwave

My husband and I just purchased a three-year old condo and the previous owners left their over-the-range microwave for us. The inside of it is sparkling clean, but the outside was very smeary with grease from cooking below it. I tried everything that I could think of to clean the grease off and was successful with most of it. Some just would not come off so we tried acetone...a big mistake! It seemed to affect the finish on the parts that we used it on and now the microwave looks worse than ever! Help...any suggestions will be very appreciated. Judy
