@kitty60 You had a guardian angel that day! Thankfully no one was injured.
Did you hire an attorney to represent you?

Let's all hope for the best and safety to all.
I never thought of this. I am sure in certain areas this is a serious concern.

In 2001 lightning hit a tree near our house, bounced off and hit the roof.
My house (the house itself) has been hit by lightning 2 times.
About 1993 lightning hit another tree in my yard and took down that one. It took our my drain spout. My husband cut it up and pulled up the stump himself. Wrapped a chain around his truck and the stump and out it came. The tree was huge, but he did it.
So, move forward to 2001 and lightning hitting the tree. The fire marshall came to our house to assess how that happened.
I was standing outside with him (my late husband was in Florida building houses) when he said, (paraphrasing) "Your insurance company needs to come here and see how many trees are near your house, very, very tall trees. There is no way that could have been prevented because the tree isn't that close to the house".
Incidentally, it didn't take out the tree or even damag it.
I called a company about putting lightning rods at both ends of the house. I was told that he could sell them to us, but it wouldn't make a lot of difference because of where the house was and all of the trees, etc.
I'm waiting until Fall when the leaves fall from the trees, then I'm going to take out a huge (circumfrance) tree a few feet from my bedroom. Because it's so close (really close) it isn't going to be easy. Not looking forward to it because my late husband would have dealt with something like this.
I absolutely love old, big trees. I get sad seeing a beautiful tree that's grown for so many years being killed.
I'm reminded of my daughter's favorite poem by Joyce Kilmer:

No we didn't. It wasn't worth it. The truck can be replaced and we were fine. Our insurance company contacted the city and accepted the fact they didn't cover it and they paid.
Honestly, at this point we were tired of dealing with "government" agencies. We had just moved here after having the property that housed our business of 25 years taken by the state to set up a "private" facility off the interstate. That I fought vehemently as they first offered not even enough to purchase land to put up a building.
