Yesterday I posted a picture of my mantel. I am redecorating some things in my house and had bought some things for my mantel. Many of the comments said that the p*u*s*s*y willow in the black vase faded into the stone.
I went to Michael's this morning and bought the new branches. I also had a painting that I didn't have hanging that I put on the mantel. My cat gets up there sometimes, and I hesitated to put a picture there. I thought the small one might be safe. I have a third vase on backorder. It is the second picture.
I think it looks better now. Does the painting look too small? (3rd picture) If it does, I will remove it, but I can't replace it with a larger painting due to my cat getting on the mantel occasionally.
Edited to say: I swapped out the smaller picture for a larger one. That is the first picture now. Does it look better? I still have the third vase on order.

I didn’t see your previous photo but I think this is lovely. I stated on another thread recently that I prefer things balanced rather than symmetrical with a variety of objects. You have my seal of approval 😁

If you like it better, that's really all that counts. And you can change your flowers any time you want. Seasonally, maybe.
(I see little Ava in the fireplace glass reflection.🥰 She looks like she enjoys her crate.)

@NickNack I really like this. I also see a little ghost in the fireplace 🤗

@NickNack 100% improvement in mantel. Things now show up and can be seen and it's much more interesting. I got some putty-like stuff at craft store, I think it's for hanging posters, that I use to hold things in place. It's great for vases and nickknacks as well as keeping pictures straight and level on the wall. It would hold your stuff in place so Henry couldn't knock it off.

Try dark vase and low candlestick on the left; taller candlestick and smaller vase on the right; picture in the middle.

@NickNack I love it. The picture makes a grouping of three brass items on the left; leave it, but switch the position of the candles so the taller one is on the left.
Nice job!!

@faeriemoon I had the tall candle on the left but felt like it looked better this way. Then I noticed that Pottery Barn has them placed the way that I do. I'll try it again with the tall candle on the left and see what I think.

Lovely fireplace. You asked for opinions, right? I think the picture is much too small. I would not center it as someone else suggested. Everything is arranged on the mantel correctly as far as "my" eye. Someone also suggested an easel for the picture. I can see where they are coming from.....it would give the picture more presence, however, I think it would make it too busy.
Now I have to go back and look at your before picture. I must have missed that one.
Good job, @NickNack ! Do your pets watch you rearrange thing? My dogs have always watched what I was up to.
