Re: Recommendations on making tea in a coffee brewer

We just use our coffee maker. We put the tea bags in the filter.

I agree that you should try a different brand of tea bag and perhaps play with how much you dilute it in the pitcher, if at all. Personally, I've been very happy with Kroger's store brand tea bags, but there are many good ones on the market, so I'm sure you'll find one you like. I like iced tea unsweetened with a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime.

Re: Recommendations on making tea in a coffee brewer

Good tea is key and water quality is extremely important as well. If you think the tea doesn't taste as good at your own home as what you get other places look at those two things first. I've heard that loose tea is the best and that what goes into the tea bags is more or less the scraps left over. Not saying that's necessarily true but you don't usually look at the tea inside the bags so it wouldn't surprise me.

That being said I honestly like the tea bags from Giant Food Stores. I've bought lots of loose tea and have lots of different pots and cups for steeping, etc. Love those when I drink hot tea. But I'm not sure that when I ice it there is much difference using the expensive teas. I'm sure others will have a different opinion but you don't have to spend a lot of money on it. I personally am not crazy about Lipton Tea either. Luzianne is good.

Another recommendation if you don't mind - don't waste money on the "Cold Brew" tea bags you see in the grocery store. They cost more money and they aren't that great either. I found I can put two family size tea bags in 1.5 quarts of cold water and then let it sit in the fridge for a day or so. I think it tastes terrific, no bitterness, and it never gets cloudy. If I don't have to make a pitcher in a hurry that's my preferred method.

Signed - Tea drinker from the Midwest, prefers strong, black tea, nothing added but ice, and drinks it all year round. Glad the Northeast states caught on that it's not only a summer beverage! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}
