Recommendations on HE washers

Old washer is making nasty noises, so it's time to research a replacement. Have been looking on-line @ LG top loading washers. It doesn't have an agitator. Reviews sound good. Anyone have recommendations on anything? Thanks in advance for your reply.

I love my LG top load washer. I can wash larger rugs because there's no agitator.

I DESPISE my Sears HE top loader. Biggest piece of junk we ever bought. Hate Sears too!

Purchased the LG front loader washer and matching dryer in a granite color three years ago. Before that I had Sears Kenmore Elite series in both washer and dryer. The best thing I can say about the LG washer is that it doesn't "dance" all over my ceramic tile like the Kenmore did. One of the complaints about front loaders is that they get a terrible musty odor if you don't follow the maintenance instructions. Instructions say to leave door open after each use to air the machine out. About once a month you need to run the "clean machine" cycle with bleach or Tide washing machine cleaner, which is very expensive. All in all, I don't think I would purchase a front loader washing machine again of any brand.

I have a Maytag Bravos top-loading machine (no agitator) and I've been very pleased with it. Have had it for about 2-3 years now and no problems. As with any HE machine, you use much less detergent so be careful! My machine has a large capacity so I do fewer loads.

If you get an HE washer be prepared for a basic load to take well over an hour!! I had a front load HE and I couldn't stand the front load aspect- also the length of the wash cycle. I went out and bought a basic machine at Lowe's. Around $350-400, great reviews too!

Do not buy a front load! I hate mine. You have to leave the washer door open or else it will always smell musty!

I have had my frontload washer and dryer set for almost 10 years and have never, ever had a problem with a musty odor; I have also never had to leave the door open either.

I highly recommend the Whirlpool Duet frontload washer and dryer; they were the first ones to come out with these and set the standard....DD has the LG and has had problems with it so I would stay away from LG.....another DD just bought a Kenmore Elite frontload washer and dryer and it is great but has a very long cycle for both washer and dryer

the regular or normal wash cyle for my machine is 38 minutes, not an hour.....and normal dry is 34 minutes....so not sure what the hour long concerns are for other brands.

Re: Recommendations on HE washers

Wow! A lot of HATE on this thread! I Love love love my Sears Elite HE front load washer! I have had it for 7years now and it has preformed excellent! Yes, I leave the door open between Washings, no big deal. There is a clean cycle I run once a month that sanitizes it and cleans it really well. No mold, no smell EVER. I can run small loads in 30 minutes or big loads take about 50 minutes. Clothes get rung out so well on the spin cycle the dry time is very short! I have always used Oxyclean powder in with each load, put it right in with the clothes. I use liquid HE detergent in the dispenser. I would purchase again in a heart beat! Best washer I have ever owned!
