Recommendations for mattress topper/pad

My husband is complaining of hip pain that radiates down his leg only when he sleeps in bed. If he sleeps on the couch, he has no pain. I was hoping to receive some recommendations for a mattress topper/pad for him. I first thought to just get one like an "egg-crate" but now I'm wondering if I should get a gel one or some other type. Any one have this problem and found something that works for them? Thank you everybody!

It sounds like your husband is suffering from sciatica. I don't think a mattress pad will help, but you can try.

Sciatica possibly. Also possible that at this point your husband is sleeping on a mattress that is too hard for him. Speaking from personal experience,we tried a firmer mattress and I began immediately to have back spasms. So did DH. My pain went from the back down into the hip and below. He started sleeping on his leather recliner, sitting up a bit from the horizontal position. Felt much better. I put a microfiber pad on top of the darn mattress, and immediately began to improve. A firm mattress that doesn't give with the heavier areas of your body can cause you extreme discomfort. I'm improving, but not well yet. DH is still sleeping on his leather recliner, in a position between upright and flat. He feels much better also. This mattress is going to the bone pile as soon as we find a better one.
