It always makes me shake my head when someone says that life was better in the old days.

Which modern appliance are you most grateful for?

I just bought a Whirlpool HE washer that can be operated by a smart phone.

Ridiculous. Today, just because they CAN put a computer chip in some item that communicates with a phone, they DO. Even if it makes NO sense.

I can't wait for the "Wipe your Behind" App,,,that "communicates" with your toilet roll, which will automatically dispense the "correct" number of highly scented squares ..SO innovative!!!! No need to think about it!!!

....don't laugh...the Lume nether-odor people are probably working on it!!!

It's like I always say...(when people bray that something is thier "right"),,,,you have the RIGHT to pick your nose up to the third knuckle while parked waiting for the light to turn green... doesn't mean you SHOULD.

That is a feature I will never use, ever, much less understand the need for.

Fortunately, with all the so called "improvements" made since your grandmotherly piece, my BRAIN still works and I don't need a stupid phone to tell my when the "warsh" is done!!!

And Horrors!!!!.....living here in rural PA, I hang warsh out on the warsh line to dry!!!!

The sheets and towels come in smelling like NO chemical laden stuff could make them smell in a million years!!!

And, I like the physical act of hanging laundry outside....It may only take a few moments, but there's something calming about it.

And yes I realize there are places where one cannot do that, (hang warsh) but here we can thank goodness!!!

thanks for the look back!!!

@On It   I have to agree with you on that one!    I remember my mother shoveling coal into a furnace  in the middle of the night, while my father was working overnight in a defense plant...

Re: Recipe for Warshing Clothes

Washer and dryer and hated hauling everything to laundromat when we first got married.

Dishwasher next and when he would cook every dish got used.  Glad those days are over.  He still cooks but not for an army.  Use to have huge holiday get together too.

Central air is a biggy too.  Use to have one for bedroom only.  Rest of house awful.  Rented at that time.

We started out rough and so glad we have come a long way but we survived and made it through and still together 47 years married.  50 altogether.  We have lots of memories and we always say wow how did we make it.  No help and he worked two jobs and I always worked as well.  I had two jobs for three years at one time.

I remember getting a microwave for Christmas and he had a friend who worked at Amana and he got a dent and scratched one but never knew where it was. Big thing.   I got him a VCR for Christmas one year and put on layaway and put something down each week.  Paid 500.00 for that.  Crazy but best gifts ever.   Can't even think of anything to give any more.  Just go and get what we want.

This question sure got me thinking back.  Washer and dryer top and would never be without again.

Re: Recipe for Warshing Clothes

We have all the conveniences our mothers and grandmothers never had.  Things can be taken care of holding a phone in your hand. We don't even have to vacuum ourselves, let the robot do it.

And yet, everyone says they have no time because they are   so busy.

Re: Recipe for Warshing Clothes

I cannot name only one.  I am thankful for ALL my appliances (when they are working properly)!!!!   Life is so busy and difficult enough these days, I simply can't imagine what it was like back in the day........
