I think the reason we all get so many candles as gifts is because people run out of ideas as to what to buy someone for a gift; and therefore, they fall back to the simple gift of "a candle".

I have not purchased candles as gifts for anyone for many, many years.

@BunSnoop - a candle or a throw blanket.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Re: Receiving Candles as a Gift

I do love scented candles. What my friends do is give me gift certificates to Bath & Body Works so I can select the candle scents I enjoy....

I occasionally give candles as gifts but chose only the manufacturer and scent the receipient likes.

Re: Receiving Candles as a Gift

If you get any candles or anything that you don't like either re-gift but better yet give them to charity. So many love the things that maybe you don't enjoy. We always get a few items that maybe isn't what we like but we are polite and be thankful, charity can make a few dollars & the buyer will be happy to purchase the item. I am not a re-gifter rather a charity will profit from it than sit in my closet.

Oh my DD in her teens worked at Bath & Body years ago they take back anything. I don't know if you get cash or just exchange, she told me they still will take back their products no questions. They understand not many like certain fragrances. Very good customer service policy.

Re: Receiving Candles as a Gift

I have never been a candle person until this year.  I always gave away any candle that someone gave me.

But this year I've developed some sort of 'smelling' issue.  No matter where I am I often have this smell that is the same.   It has affected my sense of taste, of course.  Because of this, I've bought candles for the house so that I can smell something else.

I'm very particular.  I only like lemon, floral or balsam fragrances.   So I bought 4 candles from B&BW and I burn one a couple of times a day.  It gives me relief from that "other" smell.

I'd never give a candle to anyone.  They may be as picky as I am.

I don't like candles.

I would never burn one, because it's a fire hazard, and if I'm not going to burn it, then it's just going to collect dust.

I have no guilt about tossing it in the trash.

Re: Receiving Candles as a Gift

I would prefer to not receive candles as a gift. I'm very sensitive to scents and many of them make me nauseous.
