Real Simple Magazine - Closet Organizing

In an article in Real Simple magazine that I'm reading, they're showing pictures and explaining to readers how to have an organized closet.

In the picture they show:

10 folded sweaters on shelf

8 articles of clothing on hangers

2 pairs of shoes on shelf

5 purses on shelf

Really???   I don't think there are many women that have that limited of a wardrobe!  If that's all the clothes we kept in a closet, most of us would have perfect looking closets that could also be shown in the magazine!!

I just thought it was silly they thought the article would be helpful to it's readers!  Smiley Happy

Re: Real Simple Magazine - Closet Organizing

If you want folded sweaters that are truly accessible, get plastic drawers where one sweater / drawer is the standard.  Remember how those stacks of sweaters and shirts get to be a mess?   Not in my closet....

if you have tons of shelf space and can adjust the height of the opening, one sweater can still work.

HGTV does that on home makeover shows. The newly remodeled closets have about one-tenth of the clothes the overstuffed original ones did.

Agree, all the 'organizing' how to's say the same things and they all assume what we need to organize is manageable. If it was manageable, we wouldn't need to organize it. The ones that gripe me the most are the ones that tell us to decide what brings us joy, eliminating the rest... Really...? Kondo has made a fortune off of that stale advice, proving there really is one born every minute.

I've seen issues of that magazine in a few doctors' offices and always found it more "simple" than "real."

And after Marie Kondo made a fortune with her sage bit of advice, she started selling tchotchkes at ridiculous prices to fill up all that empty space!

Oh...but only things that would bring you joy, of course!

Didn't Kondo walk back her organizing tips after having kids?

@Sakuya - Yes, she did.  Not so easy to be organized with kids it seems!
