Re: 'REALISTIC' ONE DAY RENTAL MAKEOVER

@50Mickey ,  you're so right that everything looks better on the video.  It's a big bugaboo with me, since when I post the stills, I feel I'm doing the rooms an injustice.  You really have to see them on video to get the true effect. Thanks for mentioning that and glad you like her video!

@Sooner ,  I'm so glad that it was of some help!  By the way, having tons of art to hang can be daunting, but I suspect you have a good eye.

@DottieBlue ,  great question.  It actually is a corded lamp that plugs into the nearby wall I think, but has a clear, unobtrusive cord.  Maria tends to be very breezy about stuff like that--  she said,  "Could you have a battery lamp instead of a corded one?  Of course".   But, given the one-day limitation of the makeover, I imagine they were in an improvising mood!  And she doesn't worry about quickly removing it for company.  The benefit of the warm, cozy "library" atmosphere for every day, I think, outweighs other considerations for her.

@QVCisFun ,  thank you for ordering the pictures that way-- it makes it so much easier to see the improvements.  I find the transformation from a painfully bare box to a softly colorful, botanical-accented space to be quite salutary.

The "After" living room is too crowded, way overdone. The wall art looks like it's been thrown up to cover every space possible. The room no longer feels relaxing.

That new green chair is something else, & there's not enough space for the end table next to the lounge chair.

The "Before" could've added colored pillows on the sofa, a coffee table that fits the size of the room, & a floor lamp.

To me, the change in the dining room is silly.Books no one will read stuck under a lamp, a huge vase, & a big bowl simply replaced the computer where the resident needed to work.

The small buffet/chest is topped with over-sized stuff and again looks crowded & without thought.

It was a kind gesture, but I'm betting the resident would change some things back.

My thoughts exactly!  It's a bit warmer but much too busy and crowded.

Some things don't make sense to me either....the artwork arrangement and lamp on top of the books on the dining room table among other items.

Re: 'REALISTIC' ONE DAY RENTAL MAKEOVER

@Oznell My mama raised me to have a good eye!  She was an artist.  But I have a very tall husband with a short me, and if my good eye doesn't supervise we have art hung from the crown molding.  Woman Surprised

We also have her Native American art that is lovely but I don't care for in the house.  Some is valuable.  And too much other stuff we have to get rid of which is hard.  I like the bare wall look for most of the house.

And I am old and art collects dust.  Woman Embarassed

Re: 'REALISTIC' ONE DAY RENTAL MAKEOVER

@Oznell - Thank you for "introducing" Maria to some of us! And thank you for sharing her friends' story.

 I love green, so . . .

I really like the way she tied the large floral relief picture in by using the two small botanical pictures and the landscape picture.

I am a fan of the update, and her friends certainly deserve it.  Smiley Happy

Re: 'REALISTIC' ONE DAY RENTAL MAKEOVER

The art on the LR wall is too large and makes the space seem crowded; the first thing i would have done is put up window coverings. I like green but it needs some pattern or prints to bring it to life. There is more color but still not much personality in my opinion.
