Re: RE the Artwork that Others Choose

This whole vignette just needs to be rethought or, better yet, eliminated.

Maybe a piece of art that has family history and could end up at the Antique Road Show?

That wooden phallic on the right explains it all.

Re: RE the Artwork that Others Choose

The large portrait looks to me to be that of a soldier.  I'd expect it to be someone's ancestor and, therefore, to have particular value to the owner.  It's a bit dark, but that may be due to the lighting in the room or the way things were painted in that period.  (I'd find out who painted it, before making any other judgements.)

I think the other things around it detract from it, but the top one on the left seems to be a map or something similar.  I'd remove those and the pyramid on the left and column on the right.

Not a fan of the armless chairs or the rug, but I could live with them.  I think I'd lighten the color on the walls though.

I honestly don't have a problem with the painting and see it as historic and significant.  Aren't those camels in the background?  Maybe a military scene?  Maybe specific to a time and place. . . or tradition.

The entire room looks like an exotic ethnic setting.  Likely I am wrong, but my sense is Turkish or another country in that area.

Our taste is defined where we live, I believe.  If someone recreated this, they could fool many people.
