RE the Artwork that Others Choose

Art is subjective, and people like what they like.

Each time I look at this "focal point", I see a gnome with a machete.

I know that's not what it is, but I'm wondering what about that painting inspired the choice for placement in this particular room.

The painting is WAY down on my list of problems with this room.

It reminds me of Papa Smurf's hat.

While I'm not crazy about that particular piece (the "focal point artwork"), it's probably the least offensive thing in the room to me.  The rest of everything is just a mish mash of c r a p that doesn't match or go together at all.

I like the rug, but certainly not with those chairs or wall color.  Well, to each their own!

Yes, art is a matter of taste as are designs and clothes.  This particular piece of art isn't my taste and I too would like to hear the story of why it inspired the buyer.  Sometimes there is a good story which goes along with taste.

The whole room is rather "ethnic"--I DO NOT LIKE the artwork or anything else!

Re: RE the Artwork that Others Choose

If “artwork” like this was in my house, this is exactly what you would see on my walls.

I see this as the only picture ever made of my great great grandpa, and it hangs with pride in my living room.   The man was a skilled hunter; the animals he shot with that single shot long rifle always meant there was meat on the table to feed his family.  That rifle took down the 12 pt buck on this farm during the hard winter of 1903, and kept our family from starving during weeks of deep snow, and bitter cold.  That rifle is still in our family, and hangs proudly in my brothers home.  We probably wouldn’t be here today, still living on this land, if it weren’t for great great grandpa.
