I got the idea from a cheapo holiday decoration I bought a couple years ago. A friend saw it and asked me if I'd made it. It was comprised of some silver- and gold-tone shiny plastic beads strung on some ribbon.
So I took some sheer organza ribbon and simply strung some large sparkly plastic beads onto the ribbon to make a pretty garland-type decoration.
The sizes to use will depend on the width of the ribbon and size of the holes in the beads.
The project I just finished was with 3/4" sheer coppery colored organza ribbon and 12mm white acrylic beads with fake crystals Aurora Borealis and 2mm holes. I cut one end of the ribbon into a very very fine point and dabbed some clear nail polish on it to make it easier to thread through the beads.
My next project is going to be off-white ribbon with multi-color 14mm and 16mm beads. I see endless possibilities for other holidays as well.
I would love to use Swarovski crystal beads but I think they would be too heavy.
