Questions about IROBOT Roomba Vaccum

What are the pros and cons of this product? Would it pick up dog hair well? How long does the charge last? My mom is thinking about this when we get to the new house. But of course it's useless if the charge only lasts a half hour or it won't pick up dog hair. Anyone own one and how do you like it? She is thinking it would be nice to have it fun a couple times a day.

Re: Questions about IROBOT Roomba Vaccum

I recently bought one after years of watching them.  Yes, it picks up dog hair!!! The first few times I used it i had to watch carefully, it will tell you when its full and you have to empty it and then restart it. This only happenned the first couple of times tho, like when it went under the beds!.  Im very happy with it.  It does my living room and dining in about 40 minutes.  It does not fall down stairs etc.  I dont think it takes the place of a good vacuum, but i can put it in a bedroom and close the door and 20 minutes later it looks great.  Works just as well on hardwood as it does on carpeting.  I was very skeptical and was pleasantly surprised.  I did not get the cheapest one and did not get the most expensive.  I got the one right in the middle.

Re: Questions about IROBOT Roomba Vaccum

@ccassaday We've had a Roomba 630 for several years.  We bought it when HSN had a sale price.  We have a Golden Retriever; it picks up dog hair.  We run it almost every night (LR, DR, kitchen, hallway) and it runs for 1 to 1.5 hours (we go to bed when we turn it on, so I'm not exactly sure).  My hubby vacuums with our upright once a week and the Roomba does the rest of the week.  We only have to clean it every 2-3 weeks.  It does a great job in the kitchen, and the LR and DR always look freshly vacuumed in the morning.  I'm SO glad we bought it!!!

Oh that's good to know it picks up golden retriever hair. That's the kind of dog we have. I noticed Best Buy has the 650 for $299 this week.

Ccass

I have the 860.  The thing that amazes me is that it docks itself into the charging unit when it finishes.  I have it in the kitchen.  Of course, if I have it in the bedrooms and close the door it just shuts off when its done.  We had a very bad shedder, a yellow lab, thats what made me get it, I just couldnt keep up with it anymore.  Running time is about 1 to  11/2 hours, but its a speedy little thing.I think it does a good job.

Re: Questions about IROBOT Roomba Vaccum

I had the Roomba 880. Got it from BB&B and was able to use a 20% off coupon. I have two long hair cats and all hardwood floors. I thought this machine would make my life so much easier. Well it didn't. I only had mine for 3 weeks. Gave it good enough chance to prove itself. Sure, it picked up cat hair and dirt but I found that I had to run around after it! The "walls" that supposedly stop it from going where you don't want it to go, just didn't work. I have an open weave rug that is virtually ruined now because of the Roomba going all over it. Before I ran my Roomba, I'd have to go and pick up everything that I didn't want bothering it. The remote control only worked sometimes. I'd press the "home" button and my machine would still go and go, never would stop and return to its home. I got fed up and returned mine and was able to get my nearly $900 back! I thought for as long as this thing has been on the market the kinks would have been worked out but nope!
