We went to Lazy Boy and purchased at new recliner. The salesperson went back and got a small cup with what looked like soda or coke, then she poured it on a recliner to show how the scotch guard protects. It beaded up and she wiped off.
Yesterday our new one arrived. Hubby got a cup of water and did the same. It did not bead up or roll off, simply soaked in. Store Manager said that not all fabrics bead, but are still protected. We are not sure if she did the demonstration on the one we purchased. Hubby is going to stop in the store today to talk to our sales person. I am hoping it is still guarded, since we have out of town guest next Tuesday.

I have a DH who is a slob - love him but the fact is he spills everything. Thus I am emotionally attached to Scotch guard. In my extensive experience - this product ALWAYS causes the liquids to bead up so they can be wiped off. I believe your chair was not treated. If you paid extra for that then you need to deal with the company and get a refund - you can buy scotch guard and spray it on - with all windows and fans running - yourself to protect the fabric. IMO this is the best product ever made - and it always makes the liquids bead up.

I agree with Happy Housewife, we Scotch Guard our fabric furniture and whenever a spill occurs the liquid just beads up. I have a Flexsteel sofa & love seat that are 20+ years old and look brand new. I think your chair did not get the Scotch Guard treatment. I would complain.

When I buy furniture, I always ask that it be scotchguarded before delivery, and usually pay another $50 for this treatment. I don't believe furniture is automatically scotchguarded when it is assembled, but has to be treated within the store before delivery to the customer. It is something I have to ask for at the store where I buy my furniture, since there is a charge.

We did ask and paid extra for their version of scotch guard. They are certain it was, and they said if any spots, spills,... it is under warranty.

I don't know if they still do this but years ago when we bought furniture and paid extra to have it Scotchguarded the chair (or whatever) had a Scotchguard sticker on the bottom showing that it was treated.

Did you buy the extra warranty that covers any damage? I have that and they have been really good about repairing things, no challenging the claim. I'd still pester the topic of why your fabric isn't working like the demo though.

I would be ticked. Looks like they show it's treated with Scotch Guard but sell it without. If it's treated it should bead up.
