Re: Question for you decorators

While having painted more rooms and houses over 50+ years, I admit I am biased and find the white ceilings to be crisp and reflect more light.

However, I have done the careful, tedious, neck paining edging enough to appreciate your position.  Suggestion:

try this for true comparison purpose in one room.  Paint enough of the ceiling to show white in one corner and in another corner of the same room, continue with the selected wall paint color.

Which do you prefer ?  If the light grey darkens over time, will that still be your choice ?  It's your call.

There is nothing wrong with painting the ceilings the same as the walls IF that is a look you are going for and not just a way of avoiding an extra step.

Even though the grey is very light you will achieve a different look than grey walls with a white ceiling.

Although I don't paint anymore, at one time I did just about all the painting in our homes.  I have never used tape; it's too time consuming and it certainly isn't foolproof.  I free-hand it, and it's not that difficult to do with a little practice.

I would recommend googling "rooms with grey walls and a grey ceiling".  Enough pictures should come up to provide you with a color close to the one you have in mind.

Finally, I like the constancy of the same color flowing from room to room.

are you using flat  paint on  the walls ?

If you use eggshell or any other type of gloss paint on the walls , then I would  only use flat paint on the ceilings  in the same color.  You would still need to use  paint tape at the wall seam if you use two different types of paint .

If you use flat paint  on walls and ceilings , no taping required .

Good point! I forgot to mention with mine I didn't tape even though I used different sheens. I just cut in but little mistakes are not at all noticable and you don't need to be near as careful. It's still a lot easier than using 2 different colors.
