Question for the decorating experts!

I purchased this lantern at Michael's earlier this week. I have no idea what the "proper" size candle is for something like this. Do you use a taller candle and let the top of the candle go up in to the decorative portion of the lantern or do you use a candle that falls within the actual glass portion? I will be using a flameless candle. The actual lantern is about 16" in height and the door is about 11" in height. The glass portion is 7-3/4" in height. TIA!
