Question about timers on flameless candles- help please!

I purchased the lantern flameless candle TSV. The timer has settings for 4 or 8 hours. I thought you set them once and they would turn on every evening. That is how I understood the presentation.

Does anyone know for sure how these are supposed to work? I think mine are broken because I have to turn them on every evening.
