Question about those Bell & Howell mouse lights

These seem to work at our cottage, which is shut down in the dead of winter.  They blink and emit ultrasonic sounds, supposedly.  Can I put a bookcase in front of one of these without affecting its performance?  This woud be in the end of the cottage where other units are not close.  Its performance is vital.  (Some people have told me these don't work at all, and that it is just dumb luck that we don't get any mice.)

@depglass    At one time the FTC considered taking these off the market due to ineffectiveness.  If their good performance is essential, I wouldn't risk it.

I would not put anything in front of it like that.  We use them too.

@depglass   It's my understanding that nothing can be directly in front  of the mouse light.  I wouldn't put a bookcase there.

Re: Question about those Bell & Howell mouse lights

@Luvsmyfam     Check the OUTSIDE wall where your dryer vent exhausts.......there may be a crack in the wall  around the vent where the mice can get inside the house.   You may need to have that patched.    di

Re: Question about those Bell & Howell mouse lights

My house is full of these.  Will not live without them.

I don't have a mouse problem.  It's more bugs than anything else, but I did notice that when I put one in my powder room which has a vent to the outside of my house that the birds no longer try to set up house in the vent.

Re: Question about those Bell & Howell mouse lights

OK, no bookcase in front.  Thanks.  We do have problems at home with dryer vent, I'll have DH check at cottage.  Bathroom and laundry room are combined.  Now where to put the bookcase?  I'm obviously desperate if I considered the bath/laundry.  (moisture issue?)
