Question About Interior Wall Paint...

When painting interior walls of the home, what paint finish do you prefer; flat, eggshell, satin, semi gloss or high gloss?

Getting ready to have the interior of our home painted and deciding on options.

TIA

Re: Question About Interior Wall Paint...

We use flat for ceilings, eggshell for walls and sometimes matte, depending on how the room is used and satin for trim.

Re: Question About Interior Wall Paint...

Depends on the room and the lighting in a room. Light will reflect off of glossy or semi-glossy paint and that's good for dark rooms. Flat paints are good for walls with imperfections but flat paint is not durable so don't use it in kitchens/baths where satin would be the choice there. Satin is also good for bedrooms and office rooms. Eggshell in the living room b/c its more durable than flat but not as shiny as satin.

Re: Question About Interior Wall Paint...

I know next to nothing about paint, so this may not be helpful.  My husband recently painted our kitchen and laundry room and also the cabinets with a paint I found online.  ALL-IN-ONE Paint by Heirloom Traditions.

There's facebook pages about this paint.  The primer is built in.  I know some people don't like that.  But it turned out beautifully.

@Sunshine Kate  We used Benjamin Moore eggshell on our walls 40 years ago, and it has survived beautifully through 3 rambunctious children, and now grandchildren. I've even used Ajax on occasion with no problems. Hahaha!

Satin for me. When I spring clean and wipe my walls and base boards it cleans very well. Years ago I lived in am apartment and the paint was flat. You could barely bump it and it left marks. And it could be wiped down you had to touch the spots up with paint.

I'm in the same project. I've always used flat for the ceiling ,satin for the walls and gloss on baseboards & trim.
