Re: Quest for better cat litter

I agree with the other poster who named Feline Pine as the best cat litter. It is fantastic! I can't find it in any stores around here so I order 5 large bags at a time and it ships for free. There is no dust tracking, the smell is nice, and best of all it is safe to flush down the toilet! I use it in conjunction with the Breeze litter box system and never have an odor problem, I just flush when she's done with her business.

Remember when picking out cat litter...its all about your kitty NOT you. Please don't get those pine smelling granules (Feline Pine) that has an extreme scent so humans will like it. Poor kittys sensitive nose will hate it!

Re: Quest for better cat litter

I can tell you ladies which litter NOT to buy---the new Tidy Cats lightweight litter.

I was so excited when I first saw this--and yes, the container is fairly lightweight. BUT this stuff tracks everywhere. I have found litter all over the house, even in my bed. And the laundry room floor where the 2 boxes are located is covered in it. What a mess!! I wish I had read all of the negative reviews about it before I purchased.

(((((((((( gailchap))))))))))

So sorry for your loss. I know all too well what it's like to lose a 4-legged family member...takes me years to get another pet.

Re: Quest for better cat litter

I am afraid the strongly scented litters (Fresh Step smells so good) makes my cat's paws yukky for him to lick when grooming himself.

Re: Quest for better cat litter

I don't think about how the litter works for me. I'm always thinking about my cats.

I use the wheat litter. The chemical litters get licked off the cats feet and the possibility of kidney problems comes into play.

Re: Quest for better cat litter

We use Fresh Step unscented which is not easy to find. We hate the scented kind because the cats carry the smell. Who wants to smell like kitty litter? We were getting the unscented at the local Ingles but either they stopped carrying it or it is out of stock. Petco carries it- a 40 mile one way trip. A couple weeks ago we had to make that trip to get our brand of cat food. We stopped at 3 walmarts and none had the 22 lb bag and were out of all the brands for some reason. I was worried there was another pet food recall. I guess our cats are kind of spoiled. A few years ago Purina changed the cat food receipe and were they upset!! So we are reluctant to try a different litter.

Re: Quest for better cat litter

I have 5 kitties...Sophie,Tabitha,Samantha,Henry & Jack (all rescues who stay inside 24/7) and after much experimentation I have found that Scoop Away (clumping) works the best.

I tried all the natural ones (made from pine, wheat, newspapers, etc.) and my kitties were not happy campers{#emotions_dlg.angry} {#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}with any of them.

gailchap... My heart and my deepest sympathy goes out to you on the loss of your beloved Jerry. Please find comfort in the fact that he knew how very much you loved him and he's now happily running like a kitten with all of his new friends through the sunlit meadows of that most blessed place on the other side of The Bridge.

Re: Quest for better cat litter

beastie, I love your cat's names. I like my cats to have real names. I read somewhere a long time ago that animals hear their name better if you use two syllables. So, I say Ja ak (making it sound like two syllables! HA! I know it drives everyone crazy!

I've had a Fabio, Annabelle, Cleopatra (Cleo), Penelope (Penny), Tabetha and now Jackson (Jack).

People who have never had cats don't think they can be affectionate or give love! Boy are they wrong! Jack gets in the bed with me at night and snuggles with me when I lay on my side!

He's perfect for me because I can't get out and walk a lot (like if I had a dog). I play with him pretty much every day. We have an area with all of his toys (cubes, etc) and he loves it.

Feline Pine does not have an extreme pine scent, nor does it come in granule form. You must be thinking of something else. Feline Pine is made from sawdust, comes in more like an elongated pellet form & the scent is almost non-existent. My cat never objected to it in any way. I had many cats over many years & I know how they behave when they don't like their litter.
