How lucky your family was to have your own magnolia tree. There's something so pure and lovely about the magnolia blossom, one that I associate with Christmas, along with the dramatic leaves.
I don't have many faux flowers, but one that I insist on putting out over the holidays and in winter, is one creamy magnolia bouquet. Makes a nice counterpoint to all the winter branches and evergreens this time of year...

@on the bay, I think those years when Thanksgiving arrives later in November, I am more likely to pull back on the amount of decor because I know it won't be out as long. Of course, there's never more than a week's difference, but somehow that affects me mentally. This year, I delayed decorating even later than Thanksgiving weekend because I was out-of-town, so as you said, the thought of putting it all away in January probably affected my desire on how much to decorate.
