Re: QUESTION ABOUT YOUR DESIGN PREFERENCES--

[ Edited ]

@shoptilyadropagain ,  your style intrigues me, leaning as it does more "modern" than most here on the forum.  I hear you about clean lines.  It seems contradictory, but as much as I cherish antiques, I'm drawn to simple lines too.  Even the antiques that I most favor, tend to be from the less- froo froo periods...

The retro aspect of my so-called "Street-side Cottage Retro Mix" leans into sleeker midcentury and Art Deco lines.  Even like contemporary...  These manifest in my house mostly in accessories, rather than furniture.

And I can really love *mostly modern* or mostly contemporary rooms-- if they have that requisite "warmth" factor or some sort of coziness that you reference.

Is it possible for you to post an image from some room online that you like?  I'd love to see where your more modern sensibility takes you...

@spiderw ,  I am well acquainted with your rich, traditional style, from your highly descriptive posts on the the subject in the past.  I'm so glad you mention the presence of books, which do offer so much soul to a room, really almost more than any other item...   Asian rugs, art, family photos, it paints such a welcoming picture!   Does not sound in the least like a museum, but a beautifully enveloping home.

Edited to correct goofball grammar--  I was getting too excited thinking of all these styles, and started to type gobbledygook letters, ha.

Add me to the list of dog owners who decorate with dog hair, toys, and window slobber. 🤣  I have throws on all my sofas and beds so our dog can jump up on them.

@Oznell

I would describe my style as traditional and comfortable, but not formal or stuffy. I prefer warm neutral colors on my walls and furnishings with a few accent colors and prints in pillows, rugs, and artwork. I have accessories, but I don't like too much clutter or stuff sitting around.

@Oznell I haven't taken the time to learn how to post pictures but I can describe my living room.  I have gray furniture (doesn't all match but it coordinates well).  My sofa is fairly plush with a piping done in cream.  I wish it were a little more streamlined but I guess that's where the hominess comes in...LOL!  I have wood end tables, a coffee table and entertainment center. I also have a wooden rocking chair.  I think the wood helps to warm up the gray. I have many pillows and throws that are done in creams, a darker oatmeal, grays, blacks and what I call a cafe au lait.  Most accessories (lamps, candles, picture frames, etc. are done in black, gray or silver.

I like rustic minimalist style; basics, no fluff.  Red, navy, sage, and linen are my preferred colors.

I've always labeled my style as Eclectic Traditional because it's definitely not modernist.  In my last two houses, there were elements of Asian design in some of the occasional tables and decor, but I left all that behind when I made a move this year.  After 30 years of navy and rusty red and cream, I was ready for a change.

I kept all of the upholstered pieces as they are a neutral off-white to beige, but I am pairing them with greens and a little bit of pink and slate blue.  It's a work in progress as I'm waiting for some of the major elements to arrive so no pictures to show.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT YOUR DESIGN PREFERENCES--

@wilma ,   I would have guessed that you have traditional style from your comments on various home tour threads!  Also that you prefer things rather 'clean' and pared down, from the elegant minimalist clothing style pictures of you I've seen on fashion threads.  Clothing style often seems to mirror interior design style too.

You too, @RedTop ,  I know that you prefer a clean, uncluttered backdrop from your comments as well, and from your faithful presence on the Declutter thread!  I absolutely love your color palette of red, navy, sage and linen.  They look so good together-- a classic.

@shoptilyadropagain ,  thanks for giving a word picture of your rooms.  They sound so serene and soothing.  I love any kind of contrast piping on upholstered furniture-- such a stylish finishing touch, and yet timeless.  Your neutral color palette is sophisticated in its variety.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT YOUR DESIGN PREFERENCES--

Sorry I'm late to the party!  My time has been really short this week @Oznell .

You've seen my home, I identified the primitive style with the beautiful wood patina when I was age 14.

I love to collect candle molds.

LOVE this, not mine!

I prefer a shower, so a glass shower would be in the corner.

My other love is a paired down "Shabby Chic" but that has antiques too!

I like this; it isn't strangled with "stuff".  I would but some very sheer white across the top of the tester.

I would prefer a bench with a straight frame across.

I would add a vase or basket of dried flowers and use true green as an accent color.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT YOUR DESIGN PREFERENCES--

It's never too late, @ECBG !   It's really fun that some of our most avid "home" posters have been checking in, and doesn't matter if it's early or late...

I always love seeing your rooms, especially where you dine--  so warm, and alive, and with your burnished, authentic pieces.  I can't remember having seen your candle molds all grouped together-- fabulous.

I love that soulful bathroom.  Didn't know you also lean toward shabby chic, this is interesting!  You having dual design leanings isn't all that surprising, come to think of it.  I enjoy a lot of shabby too, when it's like this bedroom vignette.  That has an airy, almost outdoor feeling.  I actually love the bench, love anything that suggests a Gothic influence...

I would love to have a house that Is Gothic Victorian with the green bathroom, but I won't being a mountain girl.

I built this house around my antiques at age 28.

The water color of the house is the archiect's sketch of my grandparent's house when I was in grade school.  It lok over a golf coarse and Grove Park Inn where we hid generals during the first and second World Wars.

It's over 1 1/2 half million dollars now but not mine.

My Victorian grandmother's love seat.  My other grandmother was washed in the pitcher and bowl set when she was born.

The boy's rooms look like boy's rooms with posters around oak high back head boards.  One was done in green with a leopard print.  the other in gray and blue with wolves.

Re: QUESTION ABOUT YOUR DESIGN PREFERENCES--

Wonderful, @ECBG !!   That magnificent tester, the love seat, your priceless pitcher and bowl heirloom, tall oak beds, tufted velvet chair, chest, all of it--  you did great in putting all that together since your twenties!   Thanks so much for sharing this bounty with us.
