West coast Emily Dickinson fan here! 

I have a window seat that is less deep so I don't bother with a cushion.  With the one pictured, I'd change the lamps to something that could be either pulled down or a swing lamp so the wall can be used for support.  I like the windows and the general inviting look.

I like window seats.  I just think they are cute/pretty and wouldn't even think about how they would be used, if at all, money being no object

I'm not arguing at all , just wondering how you would use it.   If you sit on it you have no back support at all.   How long can one sit there without back support?  If you don't use it for sitting, what do you use it for?

@BridgegalI could see myselt curling up there, leaning against the window sill reading a book.  But be that as it may not everything in life has to be useful !
