Anyone have this type of patio furniture? Like/dislike, does it withstand harsh winters, opinions wanted. Also, where did you purchase. If on-line, could you provide web site.

TIA.

Re: Poly-Wood Outdoor Furniture

Have it and LOVE it. After yearning for this stuff for a few years, two years ago we purchased a Berlin Gardens 96' dining table, 8 Berlin Gardens Comfo-Back Chairs, 2 Comfo-Back Gliders, and a small accent table. Last year purchased a bench, another small table and a couple of foot rests. It's definitely an investment, but we've been super happy with it. We live in the midwest so we experience the extremes of every season. Some of the smaller pieces can get put away in our shed over the winter. The bench and gliders get moved up closer to the house, but the dining table and chairs stay put. We do cover them, more to protect from dirt than weather. This stuff is strong, sturdy, well made, and will withstand anything but fire.

Our original purchase was from polywood-furinture dot com, but they no longer carry the Berlin Gardens line. It can still be found on other sites. Our second purchase was a direct purchase from a store in Shipshewana, IN. The colors match perfectly.

If you have any other questions about it, let me know.

Re: Poly-Wood Outdoor Furniture

Jean Louise, thanks for all that info. I did look at Poly-Wood's site and noticed they had Poly Wood and Trex brand. The Trex brand was less expensive and I just wondered what the difference is in the 2 products. PW has a toll free number, so perhaps I should call them. A bit nervous ordering something "that" expensive on-line. Wish I could find a local merchant who sells the product.

You're welcome. It's definitely worth some phone calls and comparison shopping. There are several retailers for this kind of furniture, but I was told there are only a few manufacturing plants, meaning a lot of it is the same thing from place to place. If you look at the Nautical Dining Set at one place, it seems to be the same one at the next place.

I had some worries, too, buying online and paying that kind of money, but it all worked. As a matter of fact, the furniture I ordered was delivered by a private freight company and assembled by the drivers.

Just wondering where you live? Some of the online sites have links to where you can buy locally.

We have Polywood and Trex. I think the Polywood is made better. We live directly on salt water and it has been out for 2 years and looks absolutely brand new. It has been through severe wind, snow, flooding, and more. We are getting a large Picnic table in Polywood this year to complete our outdoor seating. We love it.

We live in CT and there is a store close by that sell genuine Amish made patio furniture. What I liked was about $2K for a table and 4 chairs. It would be assembled too which is a plus. Delivery would be extra I would think, but we're so close, we could pick it up ourselves even if it took 2 trips. I just hate paying that pesky sales tax.

You mentioned the delivery people assembled your furniture -- was that part of the sales agreement, did you pay extra or were the men just nice people? Curious. Who did you purchase from? I looked at your first post -- polywood furn.com. I looked at that site and they have some nice stuff.

We bought from polywood-furniture dot com, not to be confused with polywoodfurniture dot com. I know the website says UPS delivery now so maybe the private freight company isn't an option anymore. I know we didn't have to pay extra. If I remember correctly, there was a very small delay in delivery and as compensation they offered us "white glove delivery and assembly". We were more than happy to accept.

Wow, did you get a good deal. I've looked at so many different poly-wood sites, my head is spinning. Think I'll check out polywood-furniture dot com as soon as my head stops spinning. Thanks again for all the info you provided. This board and members are the best.

Off the record -- Jean Louise, anytime I see your name on a thread, I think of some romantic novel heroine!!!

Hehe...well, JLF is from a novel....it's the given name of the little girl, "Scout", from Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mocking Bird. I watch the movie whenever I see that it's going to be on - one of my favorites. Smile

Wonderful novel, wonderful story. I was thinking more of "A Tale of Two Cities" -- Madame Defarge -- was that her name?
