I was driving back to camp this afternoon from having lunch in the city. As I drove it rained a little and then, as soon as I got off the highway in front of me were the gorgeous tree covered mountains completely encircled by a rainbow. What a gift from God on this beautiful Sunday.

What I see from my front porch would be of no interest to anyone reading here, but it is my world.
Directly in front of me is my brothers house, my mother's house, and the trashy trailer neighbors. In the distance is my grandparents farmhouse, and the few outbuildings that are still standing. I cannot see the houses of the neighbors who live above, or below me.
The previous owners of the farm had a family cemetery on the hillside; a horrible location for a cemetery as a matter of fact, and the very reason it was relocated. I remember my brother and I sitting on our swing set watching the funeral home dig up those graves, and watching the family take down their fence. That area has grown up now and just blends into the hillside, with no sign of there ever being a cemetery in that spot. We were never allowed to go to the cemetery, but I remember my Grandpa saying the first grave dated back to 1880.
When I stand in my driveway and look in front of, or behind my house, I just see tall mountains covered in green trees, that seem to touch the sky. There appear to be no open spaces visible in the trees. Many of those tall trees have protected me my entire 61 years on this earth; they make me feel safe, and it's nice to think many of them will be here long after I'm gone.
This farm was a wonderful place to grow up, and I am blessed to call it my home. I cannot imagine ever living anywhere else but right here. My grandparents loved this farm; my dad loved this farm, and I have always been very happy and proud that my husband loved it enough to want to live here and raise our daughters in this special corner of this beautiful state.

@RedTop It sounds lovely; I can just visualize it. Very pastoral and peaceful. Do you think your children will stay in the area? I suppose you know everyone for miles around. What state are you in? How lucky you are to live so close to your family.
