Our son just had his natural oak cabinets all professionally pained while and they brightened up the whole kitchen.  They laced them out in his garage and sprayed them with a Sherwin Williams paint, and they looked like glass they were so perfect.  I honestly don't know the exact cost, but he was pleased with the price of the complete job and he's pretty thrifty.
