Thank you, @SHOPR, for that thorough review.  I decided years ago that there is no perfect mattress for me.  I truly believe you are better off choosing the firmest, most supportive simple mattress you can find and then adding the topper layers yourself.  Because the foam and soft layers tend to wear out most quickly, those can be replaced without replacing the expensive part, the mattress.  Plus, you can turn and/or flip the mattress regularly to keep it wearing equally on all sectors.

@Marsha2003, I hear you, and we've always done just that.  We had a Simmons Beautyrest which was very supportive through many years.  I always bragged on it, in fact.  Various added toppers have been used and helped to make it softer and comfortable, although there was always disagreement over what was too soft or not soft enough.  I think it just finally reached the end of its life, and once it did, it had to go.

Now that we're getting older and each dealing with different pains from different issues, we wanted to give something else a try that we could individualize to some degree.

@SHOPR, all I can say is WOW after reading your post.  I hope you don't mind my font type as I have a scratch on my left eye and the regular font is hard to see as I type; DH is getting my script filled as I type this.

Our bed did cost to ship from Q - it was $55 which I thought was very reasonable.  We also didn't experience any sort of smell with ours.

If I were you, I'd be letting the store know about how the delivery went, but that's me.  Our previous bed years ago was delivered by the store (it wasn't an adjustable) and the 2 guys were great and told us we could stay around and watch - in fact, they encouraged us so we knew how it went together.

We do have a pillowtop on ours, so we didn't experience what you did.  I am glad though you are finally enjoying your new bed.

@HisElk1, Oh no, a scratch on your eye?  That must hurt.  I hope it heals up nicely for you.

The deliveries are headquartered in another part of our state, and it is a totally separate group of employees, apparently.   I completed a survey that was specifically regarding the delivery and setup process.  I left detailed comments about the issues we experienced.

@SHOPR, yes it's bothersome and feels scratchy, plus the ointment makes my vision blurry in that eye.  My hope is that it'll get better soon.

I didn't know about the delivery part being that way.  Glad to hear you complete the survey and left them know.  I hope you hear from someone about what occurred.
