I did get the last year model which is more money, but has quite a different look ( I really don't care for the plainess of this TSV for me).
I've been watching the presentations and heard a couple of things that are different other than the look. The price is of course great plus ebates has 10% off for even better savings.
Last year's model had three flicker patterns and three light settings for the candle, but didn't change colors. I'm not into the color changes on the candle, but I think a lot of people might like the ability to get that more white light.
They were also saying at the midnight presentation that this year's model is more quiet than the last one. I never mind the white noise from a fan or a heater like this, but a lot of people complain that Duraflames are too noisy for them and a bother.
They do indeed heat as well as the bigger stove style heaters, but with a much smaller foot print (and a lantern look!!!). People who complain about them not heating a space are either not letting them run for enough time, or have an open concept/high ceiling environment where the heat is going to rise up and out of the space. Not much you can do with that, as heat does rise, and open concept floor plans have no way to trap the heat like a standard room with four walls and a door.
I bought a total of four of them (gave one away as a gift, and she liked it so much she bought herself another one).
In general I'm a Duraflame junkie. We have at least 9 of them in the house, and I consider them not only functional but pieces of home decor. Couldn't be happier with the look, the performance and the comfort we get from the extra heat. Dog is laying in front of the lantern version in the family room as I type. She is so spoiled!
Consider the other styles available before you commit, because while more expensive, I think the style/look is important since they do offer others. This TSV is a good plain/neutral/simple style that will go with any decor. Last year's was just more graceful with a different top, and more suited to my decor style.
Considering buying the TSV for my son, who just got his first apartment. Looks more suited to a young man's place than the ones I have.
@Mominohio You gave me an idea, get one for DD.
I have two Duraflames and wasnt interested in the lantern type, but after seeing pictures and reading posts on this thread and another, I am thinking.
I didn't know you have another dog, what kind?
@mousiegirl
My son found a dog dumped along a desolate country road last October and brought her home. I told him repeatedly to get her to a rescue organization as I was still too devastated over the loss of our last one to have a new one.
As kids will do, he pushed and badgered me to let him get her fixed, and all her shots and keep her just until he moved out.
Well, he's gone into his own place, and the dog is still here, spoiled rotten and most likely not going anywhere for the rest of her life.
She is a pit bull boxer mix and has more character than all our previous dogs combined. She is a bit high energy, and very needy for attention. Great, well behaved, came fairly well trained for commands (or has learned them easily), never messes in the house, or chews anything, gets along well with the cats etc.
Her major fault is that she thinks furniture is for dogs, and she has periods of heavy shedding, so I don't like her on the furniture. But I guess the three Serta memory foam pet beds with backs on them similar to a sofa that she has simply isn't the same as a real sofa or a real bed.
My only complaint about her is that I have to close the bedroom doors and turn up the cushions on the upholstered furniture when we leave the house, or she makes the rounds of sleeping on all the furniture.
She's only been here a year, and can't imagine the place without her.
