PHOEBE HOWARD DOES A TEXAS FARMHOUSE

One of my favorite designers is Phoebe Howard. She's very versatile, and can do everything from luxe to simple, but always with lovely taste and charm. This fresh farmhouse is her, at her most understated, I think:

Entry:

A spacious room, yet cozy.

Nice use of unusual color:

I would love to have just one room with a herringbone brick floor!

There seem to be lots of nooks where you can curl up:

I have a vintage spool double bed, very reminiscent of these. There's something about that squiggly shape I can't get enough of.

Love the naive painting, the gingham lampshade, and that white coverlet!

For a farmhouse this design is quite lovely. Love the entryway, the kitchen and the sherbert room/furniture/drapes, especially. I am more of a contemporary relaxed Pottery Barn look.

I've been in more than a few Texas farm houses and never saw one that even remotely resembled this place. Call it what you will but it's no farm house. Can you imagine the number a pair of barn-seasoned boots would do on those rugs? Maybe a "farm" house in River Oaks, elite area of Houston.

I recently boughtt two new loveseats for my family room in a light coral shade. They blend beautifully with my fireplace brick wall. The contrast color is dark gray.

I've seen one like this on a cattle ranch in central Oregon. (And the smell outside let you know it was a real, working cattle ranch.)

This one seems more welcoming, though. Some of the rooms in that place were so fancy it was it was like being in a museum and I never felt comfortable there. They had all kinds of rugs and at least one velvet sofa.

They left their boots in the mud room, so they didn't have to worry about the rugs.
