My son's cat got out of my house where he was staying while son was away. I looked and looked for him. I heard a big commotion in the yard after dark a couple days later. Went out and my collies had him cornered in a big bush. Put dogs in the house and talked softly to the cat. He soon came out and was so glad to see me. I think he'd been close by the whole time but, as an inside cat, he was scared. It's funny, he and the dogs were very friendly in the house but when they were outside, they treated the cat like they never saw him before. I think they would have attacked him. I've seen this before with other dogs.

CollieMom - there a several facebook sites just for lost pets in the area where I live. And also I am a member of a Collie Rescue group. They are always sharing information about lost cats and dogs. It is worth a try to see if you can find a group from your Township or County.

My friend had an indoor cat that accidentally got out. She put his litter box (that had some of the cats urine in it) on her back steps along with one of her articles of clothing. She told me that she did this because a cat's sense of smell is 14 times that of a human and maybe he would be able to pick up his own scent or hers and follow it to home. I don't know if that's the reason, but sure enough, he found his way home after being gone for a week.

Sincerely hope you find your fur baby.

Drizzella, where do you do collie rescue? I've been working with Southwest Collie Rescue (see our website) for about 12 years. I have two collies, one is a rescue that I fostered. The other came from Swan Collies in Amarillo, Texas, probably the most ethical breeders I've known.

I am in this situation right now. One of my furbabies is missing as well. I have hung up signs hoping maybe someone picked her up and will return her but I have a very bad feeling that something bad happened to her. The morning before I discovered she was missing I was outside feeding our dog and outside cats when I heard very high pitched weird dog-like sounds. I thought to myself I wonder if that is coyotes. I live in town but it's a small town and the outskirts are only a few miles away. Later that day I discovered she was gone. I hope to goodness nothing bad happened but I am so sad and losing hope daily. It rained today so I will need to repost the signs I put up. This makes 4 kitties I have lost this year. None of them lived at my house but my mom's and grandmother's across the street. I would always go over and pet them so I considered them mine. One was lost from liver tumors or something. The vet couldn't save him and I tried so hard hoping he would make it. The second one had a breathing problem maybe it was allergies, not sure. The 3rd one went missing about a month ago. She was very old and my husband thought maybe she just went off to pass on. Now I wonder if maybe it was coyotes then. Now my baby Callie is missing. I'm so sad. It is very hard, very very hard.

Anyway, I hope and pray your baby comes back to you and would also ask for your prayers for my baby Callie.

I have had 2 cats go missing over the years. Both turned up in the neighbor's garage! (Different neighbors, too). What a relief that was!

Please post back when you find your friend.

We have found 2 cats in the past and decided we were going to adopt them. Step one is a trip to the vet and both of them had chips. One of them had been gone from home for 11 months and the other for 2 years. They were MILES from their homes but they made it back.

I am so sorry. Actually, over past 18 years I have tamed/neutered/spayed numerous feral cats that show up in my backyard pregnant or with kittens. About a yr and a half ago I trapped a female, had her spayed, shots and as usual put her in my spare room for 3 weeks to recover. She tamed very fast and as two of my ex feral cats had just died at age 19, I decided to keep her but kept her in that room so my other cat could get to know her slowly. Anyway, my house was burglarized, window in that room broken and she got spooked and ran out - did not see her again for just over a year and she returned this past November and is now in the house happy as can be. My nephew's cat returned after a month. Leave food outside during the day to attract her if she is in vicinity - not at night and keep eye on bowl-water too. Check garage and ask neighbors. Check area, bushes close to house - they do not tend to go far if never out before. Good luck!
