I hate my ugly formica cabinets---circa 1986----and would love to tear them out and start new--I have a small kitchen that is dark so cabinets would have to be a white or cream----yes send some pics if you can.
@wagirl I think you would like white cabinets. I love them and also I like the Shaker style cabinets--very clean. I like simple things. Put that with a stainless steel sink and a single high arch pull out kitchen faucet with pull down sprayer (Amazon) and you are set.
If Granite is involved, how about gray with specks of gray and white?

@Diamonds22 Hi. Attached are a few pictures which give a general portrayal of my kitchen. There are more, but these give the idea. I tried to show the floor as well as the oak floors leading out of the kitchen that tie into the look of the cabinets.

@pattypeep Make sure you pick two or three gray paints you like and buy the sample size and paint a small amount of the 3 colors to see which one you like. Colors look differently depending on the lighting of the room. Then wipe off the painit with soap and water.

@ScrapHappy wrote:I personally wouldn't paint the bottom and leave uppper cabinets untouched. I don't think the gray and the oak compliments each other. have you considered using a gray stain all all the cabinets? Sand down the oak and re-stain gray.
I have to agree. It doesn't sound quite right and it might look off.
My DD just purchased a home (she settled last week) and the house had been gutted and renovated a few years ago. What they did is put in medium/dark gray cabinets on the bottom and white on top with an oak floor....it looks stunning!

Lovely kitchen - although probably not what you want to hear. You have good taste.

I love the when the upper and lower cabinets are treated differently. I think in I would paint the tops and leave the bottoms natural. I just think the look is better.

Personally I wouldn't paint over wood cabinets. I suppose if you have someone who is experienced in painting cabinets they'd turn out fine. I'd probably get someone to sand them down and then stain them a lighter color using a stain that has more of a gray base. I guess it also might depend on the quality of your existing cabinets. If they are top of the line, then I'd try to have them restained or just leave them alone. If they're not, then I might consider just replacing them. JMO.
