Nay, for me.  I grew up in a neighborhood that all had seperate rooms.  And if they didn't you could Make them into seperate rooms with doors that were built into the walls.  Open concept for me is just not cozy.

I understand how some might like it but I just don't. Nor do I like Industrial style.  OR High ceilings but that one comes from living in  cold temps. If i were in a warmer location I can see the practicality of letting the heat rise.

@candys mine  I don't mind high ceilings, as long as they are just high and not those dreadful double height rooms... I hate them... You can't make them feel cozy and I'd think they'd be impossible to heat... Love pocket doors... Wish I lived in an old house with pocket doors and a real personaity...

Don't like open concept because it looks like a studio apartment to me.  When we built our house, we designed the kitchen to be in front of the house in a U shape. It has a wide opening that opens to a dining area and a large family room. So it's the best of both worlds to me in that you don't feel so enclosed while you are cooking, but nobody has to see all the dirty dishes and messy countertops.

Also the noise factor may be a problem. And the main thing, I don't want to see my refridgerator front and center as soon as I walk in the door. Many of those redesign shows on hgtv are guilty of that.

@steviebThe house is very old. 2 "garages" on the street.  actuallly one side was for the cart and the other was for the horse. corner hay rack included.  A pass through from the kitchen to a butlers pantry for serving the dining room guests.  Seperate stairway from the second floor into the kitchen for the help.  Some lovely built in shelving in the pantry and back bedroom.  All the plumbing is on Inside walls and have never had a frozen pipe.

I love rooms. I like the cozy feeling of smaller, well-designed places that can express a person's likes to advantage. I don't like feeling over-powered by the open concept.

@candys mine  My grandparents house had a very large carriage house adjacent to the property... It was a three stall carriage house and the upper level was a large, open unused loft space... I've often thought how much I'd like to have converted that loft to a residence... The house itself was a smallish town house, and though there weren't many rooms, they were all large... It also had beautiful corner fireplaces, back to back in the living and dining rooms, and pocket doors between the living room and the foyer and between the living and dining rooms... The kitchen was huge by most standards and very light, as all the rooms had large windows... I never thought of it as all that special growing up but, well, as the old saying goes, live and learn...

I love it, I love that during the holidays, no matter who’s where, everyone is still in the conversation.

I downsized to 1500 sq ft and it would seem very small to me if it weren’t for open concept. It’s just me, so it’s the perfect size for me and it’s always clean.

This is not necessarily true.  At least at my house it's not...

Yay....I don't like being all boxed in.
