Nay, for me. I grew up in a neighborhood that all had seperate rooms. And if they didn't you could Make them into seperate rooms with doors that were built into the walls. Open concept for me is just not cozy.
I understand how some might like it but I just don't. Nor do I like Industrial style. OR High ceilings but that one comes from living in cold temps. If i were in a warmer location I can see the practicality of letting the heat rise.
I am, I fear, A Hobbit.

My past two houses were open concept. My first house was not. I hate "rooms". I don't keep my house messy so being able to see every room is fine with me. My son just bought an 1882 farmhouse. It drives me crazy with all the rooms, its like a maze.

I have loved open concept since way before it became fashionable.

Nay for me. Part of our home is open but most of it is individual rooms. I like having a specific purpose for a room and having lots of privacy.
I love a cozy space and that is very hard to achieve with an open concept.....yes, it can be done but it is a huge challenge.

No carpeting anywhere. (we have 3 floors)
No lawns
We heat w/wood-a wood furnace in the lower level and heat 3600 feet.
A family room off the kitchen that can be closed off if is a little warm like today, but we do have central air.
Can't see our house from the road
Have to walk 1/4 mile to get our mail.
Nearest neighbor is a few miles away.
We are in the middle of a forest-which we own.
We are simple people and nothing fancy here.
Sounds very interesting! Thanks, also, for your other
posts in this thread giving even more info. Very cool!

I like a bit of both.
I hated the floor plan of the house my DH had when we dated. When you walked in the front door there was one large room. You could see the kitchen sink and basement stairs from the front door. No to that. Lived there 2 years.
Our current house had all closed off rooms when we moved in over 20 years ago. There is a small sunroom off the kitchen so the original back door and kitchen window are gone. Three walls of floor to ceiling windows add lots of light.
When we remodeled the kitchen & formal dining room area we removed the wall between them so now our kitchen and dining area is one big space. Our old formal dining room that was rarely used is now our everyday eating area. I like that openness, but I also like that I can still sit in my living room or sunroom and not see the kitchen sink. 👍

Yay.
I like it for the airy feeling & more natural light.

Yay for the open concept of my home built in 1981.
Nay for the open concept design in homes built after 2000.

Nay. I decided against open concept years ago when visiting some friends who had it. All the noise from the kitchen was distracting to me. Also, like others here have said, I don't like seeing the kitchen mess from the living area.
When our home burned to the ground, we decided to rebuild with the great room concept. Still a big open area but the kitchen was separate. I have never regreted that decision. One thing I really like....at holidays we have plenty of room to put other tables out so everyone can eat in the same room.

Definet NAY! There is nothing to an open concept house. It is just space. I prefer rooms that have a purpose and character. Open concept houses don't have that. Probably why I love older homes. Also, OC houses are harder to heat/cool and then there is all that cleaning you have to do to keep the open space presentable.
