@Abrowneyegirl Do you mean narrow slats? My house was built in '61 and have narrow (1-1/2" wide) hardwood floors.

No,no not width.  Length.  Longer boards are 'top of the line' as once the mill remove the flaws and blemishes in the board there is an abundance of shorter scraps.

A quality wood floor product will have longer boards with a box having a variety from 3 ft to 7 ft.   Less quality boxes will be filled with shorts 1 ft to 3.5 ft.

A room with short boards looks choppy or busy.

I don't mind narrow, narrow boards are appropriate in houses built in particular periods.  It is part of the character of the house.  Narrow boards are usually LONG boards!!

Re: One of the odd things that bothers me

I'm not a fan of drapery rods hung near the ceiling as opposed to just above the top portion of a window.  I also can't stand the pooling or puddling of window treatments that are too long,  It always looks sloppy and cluttered to me and I think it's a tripping hazard.

Re: One of the odd things that bothers me

My late husband was a perfectionist.  He could do and fix anything (and he did).  He sold his computer company and became an investor (loaned money).  He also believed (for the most part) women could do most of what men could do.  So...he taught me many things (especially about building houses, which he did).

One of my many pet peeves having to do with home improvement is crown moulding put up incorrectly (especially meeting it in the middle of a ceiling).  A previous owner of a neighbor's house put up very thick crown moulding around their ceiling in the living room.  It is a mess.  It was never 'fixed' or changed.  Every time I go in there I try not to look at it because it drives me crazy!

My late husband loved crown moulding and put it in a lot of the houses he built (it was beautiful).  It takes preparation and skill to connect the moulding so that the connection is invisible to the naked eye.

Another thing that .....well...is done incorrectly is putting wallpaper up where it meets in the middle of the room and you can see the separation of the seams.  A lot of people don't know how to put up trim (boarders) around a ceiling.  Very few ceilings are perfectly level (where the wallboard and ceiling meets).  They hang the boarder up against the ceiling, making the boarder crooked.

I could go on, but I don't want to bore you.  I was brought up that you either do something right or don't do it (or find someone who can).

My house was built in 1957 and has solid oak floors. The lengths of the boards are all different random lengths.

I hate drapes that "puddle".  To me they look like you got a great deal on extra long drapes at JCPenney.  I know that they appear in beautiful, expensive homes, but they are not me.

Uh-Oh! You don't wanna come to my house then, LOL!

I live on a island, near the beach and my home is very coastal decor, with blues in every shade!

Not to mention that blue is my favorite color and 95% of my wardrobe is blue!

Mine too!  Blue carpet throughout.  (second time around for this color too!)  Love it and so many colors go with it.

It must be so distressing for many of you to visit people.
