I chose wilsonart jeweled opal and I love it. It's green with some golds / blacks and just a bit of turquoise to spice it up. I am told it looks like granite, but I don't care if it does or not. I have black appliances so it works very well.

@Mews, yea, I've heard that about solid black plus it shows dust which I guess I never thought of in the kitchen!

@LooPY, I'm not doing a backsplash right now. One reason, if I had to make another decision I would scream plus I want to get a feel for my kitchen for while….I may never go with one. Right now they are just going to paint - it will be a light color.

@GAC65, what is bull-nosed edge. I think we are having rounded edges because of the peninsula….I don't want anything with corners. I would never copy anything of my SIL….funny thing is I'm finding out there are like 3 different gemstones and I can't remember the exact one she has so I think I'm just going to go with the one I like in the samples and hopefully it will be a different shade so I don't feel guilty.

@Lily - the jeweled opal sounds pretty….have to look that one up!

Thanks everyone!!

Hi shop--I'm not Bunny, but I can explain about countertop edges. A bullnose is very rounded, almost like a semicircle. (We hardly sell them anymore.) I think Bunny was probably referring to an eased edge where it's a softly rounded square--no corners. An ogee edge has an attractive 'stepped' look and a double ogee has an additional level (very fancy and over the top, unless it's a very large space.) A beveled edge is more angular (think of beveled glass) and if it's used, it's usually in a contemporary kitchen. Ask your designer to explain the choices to you--they should keep you in the loop.

I hear ya about all the choices--it can be enough to make you scream! It's easy to tile the backsplash area later. We had Corian in our townhouse with a self backsplash, and when it came time to sell, we installed granite tops, and tiled right over the Corian backsplash, as it was very thin. Live with it and see how it goes! The only thing is, you may find that the wall area by the sink might get messy--but no matter, you can always tile over it!

I prefer bull nose as there are no points sticking out to stab someone, mainly me.

Hi ShopQVCLess! I honestly don't remember the exact name of the pebble Wilsonart but I think you are right. We were doing all the floors in the main living areas and my head was just spinning with it all. To answer your question about picking the same tile/pattern as someone else--my son' s mother in law does this to me all the time. That irks me but then so does she. If you are not close friends or have many mutual friends then I wouldn't give it a second thought. Get the pattern that you like. Once you get something into your head about a home project, I have found that there is nothing else that will satisfy your end result. Besides that, quite a few homes in areas are built by the same builder and there is duplication of the same materials within those homes. It really is no different than that.

Does this Wilsonart have any shine on it? The laminate I've seen doesn't and it really bothers me. If they want to mimic granite or quartz it should be somewhat shiny. I need a kitchen re-do but really haven't shopped yet.

I think WilsonArt has patterns with shine and some without. I'm going with more of a texture than a smoot shiny surface.
