So good news and bad news. Landlord tested negative and he installed new thermostat at 9:00. At noon the temperature had gone up to 78, the baseboard registers were still hot and the heat was still pumping. Landlord called the boiler people and left a message. Might not get it fixed today. Stay tuned for the next exciting chapter of The Fickle Furnace. Will grammar queen be able to finally start wearing winter clothes again by the end of the week? Only the Oil People know!!!
I would be beyond irritated.

@grammarqueen Congratulaation on locating the source of trouble. I don't even know what a zone valve is, but am happy your overheating problem is fixed. Is your heat included in your rent or will you now have to pay an enormous monthly bill?
I certainly hope you don't have to.
Best wishes for a much happier, healthy, and less stressfull 2021!

Fixed! Old faulty zone valve.
Signed in to read posts but most especially to see if you had updated the furnace situation. Happy for you.

Excuse my impertinence but at the very least I hope the landlord gives you some type of credit on your rent for next month due to this unfortunate situation. What a cheapskate!
Stay safe, not that he cares.

Red switch is at landlord’s side of house and he won’t shut it off because he needs heat. The registers aren’t getting hotter, and strangely, air temperature stays at 72. Told to just keep anything flammable away from them (I do anyway) and keep a window open a crack for any CO2 fumes, get boiler/thermostat checked ASAP tomorrow.
Glad it was resolved, but WHAT?!?!?!?---keep a window open for CO2 fumes...that's crazy....doesnt sound safe at all....He said he couldn't afford it or maybe he just didn't want to spend the money while he was nice cozy and comfy....😡........And are you going to get stuck with the high heating bill----that wouldnt be fair. Id call your Housing Authority if he doesn't help you pay your heating bill which is sure to be high.....
