I think oak is a beautiful wood, love what different color stains does to the grain. My favorite though is just plain oak with a clear sealant over it. The walls in my summer kitchen are oak with a clear finish and I love how it looks  with the linen cupboards and stainless steel farm sink I chose.

BTW - you have your timeline off too. It was the mid 80's to mid 90's that country decor & oak were so popular.

Not here in L.A.  We are rather first on the scene like New York.

I know Angelinos like to think so, but I'm not so sure...

I lived in the general LA area in the 70s and 80s which is when oak furniture was very popular.  I wanted a round oak table with those claw-style legs on it but my best friend owned one.  There were lots of oak antique reproductions.

@tansy My mom picked up a claw foot oak table around that time too... Together with those (to me) awful strait backed chairs with round horizontal slats... I always thought it was a Waltons influence kind of thing.

@stevieb The Waltons sit at a long table with picnic style benches.

Re: Oak Furniture

@151949 I never watched the show, it sort of predated me and I've never been interested in the reruns, but my point was the homespun country look was popular... Keeping in mind I said 'influence', not that her aim was to replicate their exact look... But thank you for the information.

@tansy i was born and raised here in the L.A. Area.  The Oak craze was hot in the 70's and 80's.  MY timeline is correct - I lived it.

That wood furniture is a thing of the past and I don't miss it or will miss it ever.
