OHIO COTTAGE TURNED GUEST HOUSE

A family purchased a nearby existing cottage to be a guest house for their eastern Ohio family farm, then renovated it.  Half the time when I see cute guest houses, I think-- that would be a great full-time house!

The architect son, Greg Dutton, is responsible for the remodel, and his wife, Liz, is the interior designer.  Both of them clearly see the beauty in simplicity.  They chose the muted golden exterior paint to complement the area wildflowers.

The kitchen is so darling, looking out over green fields.  They chose Sherwin Williams "Renwick Beige" for all the millwork, because its slight 'blush" undertone complemented the slight pink undertone in the original heartwood pine floors.  Must remember "Renwick Beige"!

The countertops are my very favorite material for counters, soapstone!  It was sourced from a stoneyard in Columbus, Ohio.  The sconces and fixtures are from English supplier, deVOL.

Handsome, Amish-built cabinetry.

The backsplash is of Zellige square tile in "Casablanca White" by Zia tile.   The weathered, antique dining table is a beaut.

Looking back into the kitchen--

Simple cafe style curtains, to not obstruct the views--

Walls are in J.H. Wall Paint's Limewash #101.      Trim is Benjamin Moore's "Tyler Gray'.

The old leather chesterfield and the linen-covered Napoleon chairs go so well together.

The little living room has the original, working fireplace.

Love the vintage tub they salvaged, and the tumbled-looking floor tile.  The tiles are called Natural Octagon and Sea Salt Bouchon from Zio and Sons collection at Cle.

Such warm, soulful tile.

I love an antique Jenny Lind bed, especially in a cottage like this.  Spool furniture is so charming.

To me their biggest achievement in the guest cottage is its dreamy timelessness.  And you'd never run out of things to read....

I think it's lovely except for two things.

Not a fan of the books stacked under that very low coffee table. And that's one heck of a step to get into and out of the tub/shower.

I like that the kitchen is devoid of a toaster, toaster oven, coffee maker or microwave. I suspect some of those modern appliances are tucked behind cabinet doors if needed.

Elegant in its simplicity.  I love the beautiful handmade cabinetry.  They'll last forever.

I do like it but am not sure if I could live long term with the color of the exterior of the house....or maybe the porch just needs something to brighten it up. The exterior looks very drab to me and not inviting.

I am not a fan of the art work but replacing that and adding a few exterior and interior brighten ups would make it a pleasant place to stay for me.

How charming! This is like playing house!

Everything is so well chosen and displayed.

Love the dried naturals...wouldn't it be fun to stand in that sunny kitchen and arrange the dried materials?
Than you for sharing!

I like the kitchen & the antique tub. But, "soulful" tile?

I love this @Oznell Like you, I feel this would be a perfect home (how blessed someone would be to stay here as a guest).

I'm surprised but I really like all the interior colors. Everything looks fresh and cozy.

I would spend my time curled up in the living room or enjoying the fresh air and scenery on the front porch.

Re: OHIO COTTAGE TURNED GUEST HOUSE

I love the cottage, but I too dislike the books under the coffee table, the cats would have them all over the room! That bed is magnificent! and So it the tub, my grandma had that tub in her bathroom, and the Queen Anne's Lace arrangement is wonderful. I would be happy there.
