I did a load of my husband's clothes. It consisted of 2 pairs of pants and 3 shirts. I put the washer on Casual Load. Casual load is wrinkle control, normal water level and medium soiled clothing.

I took the clothing out after it was done going through all the cycles. And now I know why the washer is called High Efficiency. A portion of one of the pair of pants is completely dry. So not only does the washer, wash clothing but a large portion of the clothing in dry. SO it saves on the time you have to run it through the dryer.

So if I am interpreting this correctly, a part of his clothing never even got wet? Just asking because my washer is experiencing a long and painful death, and I will be in the market soon. I have no idea what kind of washer to buy.

I thought I was the only one who had one of those washers. It washes and dries at the same time.....I feel I am wearing half dirty clothes.

@drizzellla Now that is hysterical!! Gee, I'd probably call the technical division of the manufacturer and have a good time discussing that with them.

@drizzellla So much for efficiency. They use limited water and to top it off, some of that water is reserved for the rinse cycle! This is why so many are complaining of their clothes smelling. The doors also collect a layer of a slimey soap and dirt mixture. I moved into a house where they had a new set of front loaders. Having had a set prior and hating them, I donated them and bought a no bells and whistles top loader set and absolutely love them.

Interesting comments. I am on my second HE washer. The first was a Whirlpool -- purchased in 2003. I replaced it last year with a Speed Queen. I never had that problem with either washer. In fact -- I have always done the 7 minute spin cycle before putting the clothes in the dryer to get out the excess water.

Yes - you are right. Part of his pants never got wet. PLEASE keep your washer you have now as long as possible. I had a Maytag for 35 years. It rusted out in a spot so I got a new washer. I am so disappointed in the new washer, I wish I got my 35 year old Maytag repaired.

@judy0330 From what I read on other threads here you were very wise to get a 2017 Speed Queen. I missed the boat and can only hope there may still be some 2017 models left somewhere out there. While my 10 year old Miele is still running strong, I really can't say I am entirely happy with its available options.

@Allegheny I know! I would love to say that I was a genius -- but the truth is that I just "lucked out" that my Whirlpool decided to die in 2017!!

I just got rid of a Bosch front loading HE washer in December after using it for several years. I took the slightly used washer in trade, in a situation where I was owed money, it was not something I purchased.

I liked the ease of front loading, and the capacity of the washer. I did not like the smelly washer due to constant soap scum buildup under the door gasket. I was really not satisfied with a washer that was using what looked like less than 5 gallons of water to wash a load of clothes. In some circumstances, I had to wash loads multiple times, or wash in very small loads to get clean clothes. About the time I realized I was fed up with my HE washer, the timer messed up which resulted in having a load locked in the washer for more than 6 hours for what should’ve been a 40 minute wash cycle. I was so happy to see that washer leave this house!
